{"id":119918,"date":"2021-11-03T15:27:49","date_gmt":"2021-11-03T22:27:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=119918"},"modified":"2021-11-03T15:27:49","modified_gmt":"2021-11-03T22:27:49","slug":"sjbs-fr-petition-against-yugadanavi-deal-fixed-for-consideration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2021\/11\/03\/sjbs-fr-petition-against-yugadanavi-deal-fixed-for-consideration\/","title":{"rendered":"SJB\u2019s FR petition against Yugadanavi deal fixed for consideration"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Courtesy Adaderana<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>A Fundamental Rights (FR) petition filed by the Main Opposition, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), challenging the agreement signed between a U.S. company and the Sri Lankan government pertaining to the Yugadanavi power plant in Kerawalapitiya has been fixed for consideration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, consisting of Justices Murdu Fernando, Kumudini Wickremesinghe and Mahinda Samayawardhane, accordingly decided to take the petition up for consideration on the 12th of November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PM Mahinda Rajapaksa and other Ministers of the Cabinet, the West Coast Power Limited \u2013 the owner of 310 MW Yugadanavi Power Plant in Kerawalapitiya, US-based New Fortress Energy, the Attorney General and several others have been named as the respondents of the petition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was put forward by SJB\u2019s General Secretary, MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The petitioner alleged that the decision taken by the Cabinet to transfer the shares of Yugadanavi power plant to the US-based company was unlawful and that proper tender procedure has not been followed in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thereby, the SJB has sought the court to issue a writ order annulling the decision.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Courtesy Adaderana A Fundamental Rights (FR) petition filed by the Main Opposition, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), challenging the agreement signed between a U.S. company and the Sri Lankan government pertaining to the Yugadanavi power plant in Kerawalapitiya has been fixed for consideration.
