{"id":119995,"date":"2021-11-04T19:17:49","date_gmt":"2021-11-05T02:17:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=119995"},"modified":"2021-11-04T19:17:49","modified_gmt":"2021-11-05T02:17:49","slug":"former-us-navy-officer-arrested-in-sri-lanka-with-ammo-weapons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2021\/11\/04\/former-us-navy-officer-arrested-in-sri-lanka-with-ammo-weapons\/","title":{"rendered":"Former US Navy Officer arrested in Sri Lanka with ammo &#038; weapons"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Written by Zulfick Farzan Courtesy News 1st<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>COLOMBO (News 1st); The two\nsuspects, including a US Citizen, who were arrested from Theldeniya, Digana for\nthe possession of multiple weapons were remanded to the 15th of November when\nthey were produced in Court on Monday (1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sri Lanka Police arrested two men\nfor the possession of multiple weapons and other material from a luxury scheme\nknown as Victoria Range in Theldeniya on Saturday (30).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The arrests were made after police\nreceived information that the house was being used to assemble high-performance\nmotorcycles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Police Media Division said one\nof the arrested men is a US citizen and is a Former US Navy Officer, who had\nretired from service and returned to Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police recovered 100 bullets\ncompatible with a pistol, One Rambo Knife, One Telescope, One Air Rifle, Four\nWalkie-Talkies, Two motorcycles with no registration, Four registered\nmotorcycles, Two mobile phones, One passport, and Rs. 700,600\/- in cash, from\nthe possession of the suspects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>44-year-old Chaminda Aloysius\nBandara Dissanayake, one of the suspects, is a US Citizen and had served in the\nStrike Fighter Squadron 143 (VFA-143), in the United States Navy from 2004 to\nJanuary 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Former US Navy Officer has a\npermanent residence listed in Attidiya, Dehiwala, and had rented out a house in\nDigana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other suspect was identified\nas Terrence Mario Perera, who was deported from Canada for criminal charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has a permanent address listed\nin Nawala, in the suburbs of Colombo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Detectives have identified the\nbullets seized from the possession of the suspect as .45 ACP (Automatic Colt\nPistol) and this is a weapon used by US Military forces.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Written by Zulfick Farzan Courtesy News 1st COLOMBO (News 1st); The two suspects, including a US Citizen, who were arrested from Theldeniya, Digana for the possession of multiple weapons were remanded to the 15th of November when they were produced in Court on Monday (1).
