{"id":120304,"date":"2021-11-14T18:10:42","date_gmt":"2021-11-15T01:10:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=120304"},"modified":"2021-11-14T18:10:42","modified_gmt":"2021-11-15T01:10:42","slug":"two-young-asian-scribes-killed-pec-condoles-their-demise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2021\/11\/14\/two-young-asian-scribes-killed-pec-condoles-their-demise\/","title":{"rendered":"Two young Asian scribes killed; PEC condoles their demise"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Nava Thakuria<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Geneva: Press Emblem Campaign (PEC), the global media\nsafety and rights body, condoles the sad demise of two young journalists in\nIndia and Afghanistan within 24 hours and urges the concerned authorities to\nprobe the developments that led to their untimely deaths, and subsequently to\nbook the perpetrators to justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It may be mentioned that a 22 years old journalist cum\nRight to Information (RTI) activist named Buddhinath Jha (also known as Avinash<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jha) was found dead in Madhubani district of Bihar in\neastern India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Buddhinath used to report on many fake medical clinics\noperating in his locality and some of those were also closed by the authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Suddenly he went missing four days back and later his\ncharred body was found by a roadside on 12 November. The Benipatti-based family\nclaimed that Buddhinath was offered a lot of money (as bribes) by some illegal\nhealthcare clinic owners, but he did not respond to them. Later he received a\nnumber of threatening calls from unknown persons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is frustrating that&nbsp;\na young scribe has to lose his life for exposing the fake clinics, which\nare otherwise killing innocent people with incompetent medical interventions.\nIt seems, those criminals are more organized to offer bribes as well as\nthreats. The Bihar State government must ensure an authentic probe into his\ndeath and punish the culprits,\u201d said Blaise Lempen, secretary-general of PEC (<a href=\"https:\/\/pressemblem.ch\/\">https:\/\/pressemblem.ch\/<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, an Afghan television news presenter named\nHamid Saighani was killed in an explosion that rocked Kabul city on 13\nNovember. The young scribe used to work for Khurahid and Aryana News. Hamid&#8217;s\nwife, also a journalist, Fawzia Wahdat confirmed the heart-breaking news. He is\nthe 12th journalist (including Indian photojournalist Danish<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Siddiqui) to be killed in the war-torn Afghanistan since\nthe beginning of 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to Buddhinath, India lost five journalists namely\nAshu Yadav, Sulabh Srivastava, Ch.
