March 22 \u2013 Sri Lanka\u2019s current economic crisis is similar to that it faced in the 1970s, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka W.A. Wijewardena has pointed out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wijewardena said Sri Lanka is facing shortages and queues similar to that what was reported in the 1970s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said during the 1970s the Government sought Chinese help to keep afloat and ship to mouth consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stating that the policy as today was to look inward rather than outward, Wijewardena questioned if Sri Lanka will not learn from past mistakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank shared an article by the New York Times in 1974 that was published on Sri Lanka\u2019s economic crisis at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
