A 53-year-old man killed himself in front of Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s house in Mirihana, even as the 36-hour curfew imposed in the country failed to deter protestors from venturing out and staging agitations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to media reports, the man killed himself by climbing on a transformer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has been demanding an end to the 13-hour long power cut imposed in the island nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sri Lanka is currently experiencing its worst economic crisis in history. With long lines for fuel, cooking gas, essentials in short supply and long hours of power cuts, the public has been suffering for weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the curfew imposed by the government, the protests are spiraling out of control in the country. The police have arrested 664 people in the Western Province for defying curfew and staging protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Rajapaksas appear to be be clueless about how they can take the nation forward. The opposition lawmakers, led by their leader Sajith Premadasa, took out  a protest march to Independence Square in Colombo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
