{"id":126369,"date":"2022-06-21T06:32:39","date_gmt":"2022-06-21T13:32:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=126369"},"modified":"2022-06-21T06:32:39","modified_gmt":"2022-06-21T13:32:39","slug":"sri-lankas-inflation-hits-record-high-45-3-in-may","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2022\/06\/21\/sri-lankas-inflation-hits-record-high-45-3-in-may\/","title":{"rendered":"Sri Lanka\u2019s inflation hits record high 45.3% in May"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Courtesy Adaderana<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>The overall rate of inflation as measured by the National Consumer Price Index on Year-on-Year basis is 45.3% in May 2022, according to Sri Lanka\u2019s Department of Census and Statistics.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Census and Statistics (DCS) on Tuesday released the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI) and the inflation rate for the month of&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.statistics.gov.lk\/WebReleases\/NCPI_May_2022\">May 2022<\/a><\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NCPI for all items for the month of May 2022 is 208.7 and it records an increase of 18.4 in index points compared to the April 2022.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The overall rate of inflation as measured by NCPI on Year-on-Year basis has increased to 45.3% in May 2022 from 33.8% in April 2022. The moving average inflation for the month of May 2022 is 16.3%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Core Inflation increased to 37.7% in May 2022 from 27.9% in April 2022.
