     The IMF keeps stalling to grab assets in a fire sale while dividing the country. Weakening fiscal and fuel and food and health security to undermine our territorial and political sovereignty, did not begin recently. Welcome to the 75th<\/sup> reading of the gospel according to Soulbury. Denying us a productive modern industrial economy, this outcome is not unexpected. With the latest moves to bust the banks, our thoughts turn to\u2026 banks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     ee<\/em><\/strong> Readers are intrigued (see Comments<\/em><\/strong> below) about the 19th<\/sup>-century Oriental Banking Corporation. <\/strong>This OBC<\/strong> was behind \u2018the largest transfer<\/em> of property ever effected in Ceylon at one time\u2019. This week, ee<\/em><\/strong> links the OBC to the Rothschild Coffee Estate & its 2,000 acres of coffee<\/strong>, their \u2018introduction\u2019 of the first \u2018China Tea Plant into Ceylon\u2019<\/strong>, and the first Chinese Teamaker<\/strong>. These Rothschild properties eventually formed \u2018the nucleus for the Ceylon Tea Industry<\/strong>\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     Well, ee<\/em><\/strong> wouldn\u2019t call it an \u2018industry\u2019, but whisper \u2018Ceylon Tea\u2019 and we may hear echoes: \u2018Lipton\u2019s Tea Garden\u2019. And Lipton leads to Unilever. And Unilever leads to: well, how about the Council for Business with Britain-SL<\/strong>!?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     The CBBSL <\/strong>includes famous opium-pusher HSBC<\/strong>; (palm-oil devil) Unilever<\/strong>; Keells<\/strong>; Chamber of Commerce<\/strong>, Aitken Spence<\/strong>, Commercial Bank of Ceylon<\/strong>, Etihad<\/strong> Airways, MAS Holdings<\/strong>; Hayleys<\/strong>, Norfolk<\/strong> Foods, Finlays<\/strong>, Hirdaramani<\/strong>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     So why can\u2019t these mighty English merchants & usurers demand the country\u2019s due, let alone shield the country from the incessant media slings and parliamentary arrows of the English. For it is because of these ole fattened \u2018agency houses\u2019, we have to deal with the English at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  This week, England\u2019s Minister of State (Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office) Anne-Marie Trevelyan<\/strong> told the English parliament on Tuesday, \u2018England is ready to consider<\/strong> financing assurances <\/strong>for Sri Lanka\u2026\u2019 Ready? Consider? Assure?<\/em> That\u2019s it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0 With the IMF threatening to downgrade and bust the\u00a0present Bank of Ceylon<\/strong>, what a coincidence how\u00a0ee<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0recalled last week that the \u2018first\u2019 Bank of Ceylon (BoC) royal charter was granted in 1841 by another Trevelyan, English Assistant Treasury Secretary\u00a0Charles Trevelyan<\/strong>\u00a0(1840-59). That BoC charter was eventually grabbed \u2013 when that first BoC was crashed in 1847 \u2013 by the\u00a0Oriental Banking Corporation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
