Other&nbsp;<strong><em>ee<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;informants assert they saw \u2018Indian Tamils\u2019 massacre Sri Lankan Tamils in July 1983. So is July 1983, \u2018<em>black<\/em>\u2019 as all the \u2018free\u2019 media refers to it as, or does it remain \u2018<strong><em>White<\/em><\/strong>\u2019? We therefore rephrase Shakespeare\u2019s Hamlet &amp; say, \u2018There are more things in Heaven &amp; Earth, dear capitalist media, than are whipped up in your editorial rooms.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong><em>ee<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;wrote to Vichara, asking him about this mafia \u2013 if the gold business links to their extralegal transfers of wealth to India (as evident in sporadic arrests of petty gold smugglers reported)? We wondered if<strong><em>&nbsp;misinvoicing<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;is fundamental to the legal practices of multinational corporations (MNCs) like&nbsp;<strong>Unilever &amp; Exxon<\/strong>, who are the real mothers &amp; fathers of it all. And on a more whimsical note,&nbsp;<strong><em>ee<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;asked if Sri Lanka should deport all these merchants to Kacchativu, where they can set up shop, while we take the back the Pettah &amp; the rest of the ocean?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Vichara wrote back, that it is not only the gold business, but the&nbsp;<strong>whole of the<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Pettah Trade is suspected of illegal transfers<\/strong>. Though, yes, it is the MNCs who have made a fine legal art of this crime. S\/he added that Pettah has had powerful political patronage, which would make it difficult to control the Pettah Merchants, who are an ingenious lot. One way to reduce their power is to&nbsp;<strong>strengthen the Ceylon Wholesale Establishment (CWE<\/strong>) and take over the wholesale business. Vichara also says they forgot to mention the&nbsp;<strong>Saree Monopoly<\/strong>&nbsp;of the Pettah mafiosi. Of course, the CWE is being gradually taken over by&nbsp;<strong>Unilever<\/strong>&nbsp;\u00ad\u2013 Fair and Ugly in deed!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The capitalist media focused on the Indian claim to tiny Kachchativu island, while India was at the UN\u2019s International Seabed Authority (ISA) planning to grab even vaster mineral riches in those parts of the ocean (coincidentally called&nbsp;<em>Indian<\/em>) already claimed by Sri Lanka. Meanwhile,&nbsp;<strong>Serendive Energy, which the media says is \u2018linked to a large Indian conglomerate\u2019 (tho you can bet it\u2019s the Rockefeller\u2019s Exxon USA quaterbacking it all!)<\/strong>&nbsp;has got a court order restraining companies (unnamed by the media!) from granting to any 3<sup>rd<\/sup>&nbsp;party&nbsp;the<strong>&nbsp;rights to offshore exploration of over 5,000 sq.km with potential oil &amp; gas resources in the Mannar Basin.<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong><em>ee<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;has long been told that these wars of terror Sri Lanka has been subjected to, that all such bloody roads lead to the mahamolakaru (the great brains) of the Mannar Mafia. Welcome, then Rockefeller\u2019s Exxon, the&nbsp;<strong>mom &amp; pop of all mafioso<\/strong>, including the&nbsp;<strong>NGO Mafioso<\/strong>&nbsp;(note all the graphic&nbsp;<em>blocks<\/em>&nbsp;already blocked off on Sri Lanka\u2019s map, in this week\u2019s&nbsp;<strong><em>ee<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;poster!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022&nbsp;The US City of&nbsp;<strong>Baltimore has been careful to not include Danish Maersk<\/strong>&nbsp;(linked to the&nbsp;<strong>US military<\/strong>) in their recent lawsuit against the owners &amp; managers of the ship&nbsp;<em>MV Dali<\/em>&nbsp;that crashed the Baltimore bridge.&nbsp;<strong>Maersk<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2018does not appear to be implicated in the case, and is likely to&nbsp;<strong><em>escape liability<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;thanks to the particulars of its&nbsp;<strong>charter agreements<\/strong>\u2019! What these&nbsp;<strong><em>\u2018charter agreements\u2019<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;are, the media dare not divulge.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Instead, a&nbsp;<strong>US FBI criminal investigation<\/strong>&nbsp;is still holding hostage the ship\u2019s \u2018Hindu\u2019 crew (with no protests from India! Hey Ram!), while the city of Baltimore is suing the ship manager&nbsp;<strong>Synergy Group<\/strong>&nbsp;&amp; shipowner&nbsp;<strong>Grace Ocean<\/strong>, both based in Singapore. They allege&nbsp;<em>MV Dali<\/em>, taller than the Eiffel Tower, left the port in an \u2018<strong><em>unseaworthy condition &amp; with an untrained crew<\/em><\/strong>\u2019. All the way to Sri Lanka\u2026 and \u2026now, guess what, they say the Dali was going to China!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The&nbsp;<strong>US military is meanwhile removing the 4,700 containers<\/strong>&nbsp;(most supposedly \u2018<strong><em>empty<\/em><\/strong>\u2019) under cover of a&nbsp;<strong><em>no-drone zone<\/em><\/strong>. The US government is also trying to craft a bedtime story to explain why the ship (having first gone to New York &amp; US Navy\u2019s Norfolk port) was coming to Colombo. While most media say the ship was on its way to Colombo, a recent&nbsp;<em>New York Times<\/em>&nbsp;report now says it was going on to Yantian, Shenzhen, in China. The ship carried many \u2018empty\u2019 containers, plus those&nbsp;<strong>764 tons of hazardous materials<\/strong>. Environmentalists fear they could have leaked into the River Patapsco (from Algonquian&nbsp;<em>pota-psk-ut<\/em>, meaning \u2018backwater\u2019 or \u2018tide covered with froth\u2019).&nbsp;<strong><em>Froth<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;in deed! These hazardous materials included corrosive &amp; flammable liquids &amp; lithium-ion batteries \u2013 at least 14 of the 56 containers onboard were reported as damaged.&nbsp;<strong>Lithium-ion batteries<\/strong>&nbsp;contain toxic&nbsp;<strong>cobalt<\/strong>, which causes cancer in people &amp; animals following exposure through food or water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018One of the economic principles is that growth rate and interest rates&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>must be roughly equal. If the profit rate is significantly higher&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>than the growth rate, there will be significant inequality.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus, the proposals of the bondholders and the government&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>is a violation of basic economic principles\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What the Chinese ask is,&nbsp;<strong>why aren\u2019t the multilateral agencies&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>taking a haircut for the loans they have given<\/strong>?\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 Dhanusha Gihan Pathirana, see&nbsp;<strong><em>ee Focus<\/em><\/strong>,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022&nbsp;<strong>The IMF has been demanding a law to seize the proceeds of crime<\/strong>, and wants Sri Lanka to enact such legislation&nbsp;<strong>before it releases its<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>3<sup>rd<\/sup>tranche<\/strong>&nbsp;of US$337million. Yet, it is the IMF who should be charged with criminality. And, what\u2019s happened to the proceeds from colonialism &amp; imperialism? \u2013 isn\u2019t colonial and debt bondage the greatest crime, the greatest corruption? No colonialists &amp; imperialists have been arrested, jailed or hanged over these 75 years and more, of so-called&nbsp;<em>independence<\/em>. Instead, they\u2019ve been mollycoddled as \u2018nominated\u2019 unelected MPs, allowed to remove their capital to London, retain their shares in major companies (which now dominate the so-called private sector) and return to tell us we owe them, and then give us regular lectures &amp;&nbsp;sermons<strong><em>&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong>on<strong><em>&nbsp;human rights!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sri Lanka being Fleeced through Debt Restructuring<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;As this&nbsp;<strong><em>ee Focus<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;notes,&nbsp;<strong>imperialism\u2019s economics<\/strong>&nbsp;require a \u2018persistent &amp; long-term net&nbsp;<strong>appropriation of surplus value<\/strong>&nbsp;by the high-technology advanced capitalist countries transferred from the low-technology dominated countries\u2019, and this is&nbsp;<strong><em>all legal<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;of course.&nbsp;&nbsp;They identify, \u20184 channels by which surplus value flows to the imperialist countries:&nbsp;<strong>currency seigniorage<\/strong>&nbsp;(profits made by the USA by printing dollars);&nbsp;<strong>income flows from capital investments<\/strong>;&nbsp;<strong>unequal exchange (UE)<\/strong>&nbsp;through trade; and&nbsp;<strong>changes in exchange rates<\/strong>.\u2019 So why do our so-called Marxists &amp; Trade-Unionists harp on about corruption &amp; \u2018illegal\u2019 transfers? It\u2019s all legal!! And yet it is not just a matter of capital and brain drains:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Yet&nbsp;<strong><em>ee<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;has our very own and different definition of&nbsp;<strong><em>imperialism<\/em><\/strong>, as taught by our muse&nbsp;<strong>SBD de Silva<\/strong>:&nbsp;<strong><em>ee<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;prioritizes the&nbsp;<strong>prevention of modern industrialization&nbsp;<\/strong>(machine-making, our engineers make no engines!); The&nbsp;undermining of a class dedicated to capitalist accumulation: No investment in machine industrialization. The stealing of&nbsp;<strong>skilled workers<\/strong>&nbsp;&amp; the&nbsp;<strong>deskilling of artisans<\/strong>. The prevention of&nbsp;<strong>modern vocational and technical education<\/strong>, especially through&nbsp;<strong>on-the-job training<\/strong>&nbsp;in machine-industrialization, and the wholesale<strong>diversion of education<\/strong>&nbsp;into non-technical pursuits and conceits, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Meanwhile as&nbsp;<strong>May Day<\/strong>&nbsp;approaches, we also note that the biggest capitalist organizations in the USA have gone to court (in Texas!) to overturn a US federal law which prevents the imposition of \u2018non-compete clauses\u2019 \u2013 \u2018<strong>worker handcuffs\u2019<\/strong>!
