{"id":142701,"date":"2024-06-28T14:35:33","date_gmt":"2024-06-28T21:35:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=142701"},"modified":"2024-06-28T14:35:33","modified_gmt":"2024-06-28T21:35:33","slug":"cid-arrests-hundreds-of-indians-linked-to-online-financial-scam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2024\/06\/28\/cid-arrests-hundreds-of-indians-linked-to-online-financial-scam\/","title":{"rendered":"CID arrests hundreds of Indians linked to online financial scam"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Courtesy The Daily Mirror<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Colombo, June 28 (Daily Mirror) &#8211; The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has conducted a widespread operation resulting in the apprehension of 137 Indian nationals suspected of being involved in a large-scale online financial scam across multiple locations in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Police Media Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa, the arrests took place in Negombo, Kochchikade, Madiwela (Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte), and Thalangama (Battaramulla).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Negombo, 55 suspects were detained along with 55 mobile phones and 29 computers seized.&nbsp;Similarly, in Kochchikade, authorities apprehended 53 individuals and confiscated 31 computers&nbsp;and 58 mobile phones<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The operation in Madiwela led to the arrest of 13 suspects and recovery of 8 laptops and 38 mobile phones, while in Thalangama, 16 suspects were taken into custody with 8 laptops and 38 mobile phones recovered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Accordingly, a total of 158 mobile phones, 16 laptops, and 60 computers were seized from the suspects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All the arrested suspects are males, said the Spokesman<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Courtesy The Daily Mirror Colombo, June 28 (Daily Mirror) &#8211; The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has conducted a widespread operation resulting in the apprehension of 137 Indian nationals suspected of being involved in a large-scale online financial scam across multiple locations in the country.
