{"id":143245,"date":"2024-07-29T14:51:02","date_gmt":"2024-07-29T21:51:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=143245"},"modified":"2024-07-29T14:51:02","modified_gmt":"2024-07-29T21:51:02","slug":"port-of-colombo-ranked-best-performing-port-in-growth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2024\/07\/29\/port-of-colombo-ranked-best-performing-port-in-growth\/","title":{"rendered":"Port of Colombo ranked best performing port in growth"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Courtesy Port Technology International<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.porttechnology.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/elementor\/thumbs\/iStock-1212793903-qrtir0o2nsgnbfof5fxzttrwfpucc6ix0th08ln7ns.jpg\" alt=\"Port of Colombo ranked best performing port in growth\" title=\"Cargo ship transit in Colombo port.\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Alphaliner has designated the Port of Colombo as the best-performing port in the world for the first quarter of 2024.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This award recognises Colombo\u2019s outstanding growth rate of 23.6 per cent, which outperforms all other ports globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Notably, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.porttechnology.org\/news\/port-of-long-beach-records-strongest-june-teu-volumes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Port of Long Beach<\/a>&nbsp;came in second with a growth rate of 23.3 per cent, followed by the Port of Tanjung Pelepas with a growth rate of 22.7 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first half of 2024 has been particularly impressive for the Port of Colombo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.porttechnology.org\/news\/maersk-methanol-vessel-arrives-at-port-of-colombo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">READ: Maersk methanol vessel arrives at Port of Colombo<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When compared to the same time in 2023, domestic volumes jumped by 19.2 per cent, transshipment volumes by 9.6 per cent, and overall volumes increased by 12.5 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reportedly, the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) terminals have been instrumental in generating this exceptional performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between January and June 2024, the SLPA terminals had a 23.6 per cent increase in domestic volumes, a 15.5 per cent increase in transshipment volumes, and a total volume gain of 17.7 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In February,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.porttechnology.org\/news\/transshipments-at-port-of-colombo-soar-for-third-consecutive-month\/\">the Port of Colombo in Sri Lanka witnessed an increase in transshipments by 29.1 per cent YoY, marking the third consecutive month of growth<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Courtesy Port Technology International Alphaliner has designated the Port of Colombo as the best-performing port in the world for the first quarter of 2024.
