Ontario , K1J 6G1<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>8 August 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Editor (Letters)<br>THE OTTAWA CITIZEN<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dear Editor (Letters):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I agree\u00a0with Robyn Urback of\u00a0 the <strong><em>Globe and Mail <\/em><\/strong>( July 31, 2025) that Hon. Gary Anandasangaree, the Minister of Public Safety should\u00a0recuse himself on public safety\u00a0matters involving certain designated\u00a0terrorist\u00a0groups in Canada as he is\u00a0incapable of fulfilling the full scope of his duties,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is unfit for his role as the Minister of\u00a0 Public Safety, (who is a Sri Lankan-Canadian Tamil)\u00a0due to his past advocacy\u00a0for a Sri Lankan-Tamil\u00a0 man who was barred entry to Canada due\u00a0to what officials deemed to be his\u00a0 &#8220;protracted involvement&#8221; with the Tamil Tigers,\u00a0 \u00a0When he was\u00a0 parliamentary\u00a0secretary to the Minister of Justice.\u00a0 Mr. Anandasangaree wrote two letters\u00a0urging\u00a0Canada Border Services\u00a0Agency (CBSA), which now falls under his ministerial purview, to over \u00a0turn its decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I note that Prime Minister Carney backs\u00a0his Public Safety\u00a0Minister over\u00a0 letters supporting\u00a0Sri Lakan&#8217;s immigration\u00a0case.\u00a0 That was unfortunate, as my support for him has Prime minister has dropped several notches, and he won&#8217;t recover from this stupidity easily in my eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In My eyes, the bottomline&nbsp;is that Hon.Gary Anandasangaree must resign as Public Safety Minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asoka Weerasinghe<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tel: 613-747-2272<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Asoka Weerasinghe 2066 Kings Grove Crescent\u00a0.
