Indian authorities<\/strong> are being accused of ordering the unarmed<\/em><\/strong> Iranian warship IRIS Dena<\/em><\/strong> to leave Indian waters prematurely, and of tipping off the USA about the location of the ship, <\/strong>putting the sailors, many of them students,<\/strong> in harm\u2019s way. The Dena<\/em> was then attacked by a US submarine in Sri Lanka\u2019s Exclusive Economic Zone, <\/strong>killing & maiming over a 100 people, while disrupting Sri Lanka\u2019s maritime livelihoods, and international trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the present circumstances, we request all fishermen<\/p>\n\n\n\n

not to cross Sri Lanka\u2019s maritime borders and to avoid<\/p>\n\n\n\n

entering the maritime territories of other nations\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 Fisheries Minister, ee Sovereignty<\/em><\/strong>, Fishermen urged<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fishing boats have been warned not to venture out in international waters. Well, tell that to the Indians! Meanwhile, Indian commentators are asking how such \u2018a major military intervention<\/strong> was made possible\u2019 <\/strong>in what India calls its \u2018primary maritime backyard<\/strong>\u2019?India had even declared<\/strong> itself the \u2018Net Security Provider<\/strong>\u2019 in the Indian Ocean:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

came to India\u2019s doorstep & sank a warship<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

     Several Gulf countries, who claim to have opposed the most recent US attack on Iran, are wondering if \u2018force majeure clauses\u2019 (unforeseeable circumstances that prevent fulfilment of contracts) can be invoked in current agreements, to \u2018alleviate some of the anticipated economic strain from the current war\u2019. Indeed, while economists recently called for disasters linked to \u2018climate change\u2019 be taken into account in calculating Sri Lanka\u2019s unpayable debt to Wall Street\u2019s bond holders, surely the USA\u2019s & Europe\u2019s propensity to wars (including waging terrorism on Sri Lanka), far more frequent than weather-related calamities, should also be computed into the calculus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Did the Sri Lankan authorities, either inadvertently or purposely, provide data to the USA on the Iranian ship\u2019s coordinates before it was attacked? \u2018IRIS Dena<\/em> had requested permission to stay within Sri Lankan territorial waters and waited for 14 hours, before this request was turned down by President Anura Kumar Dissanayake\u2019, states the Communist Party of Sri Lanka (CPSL). The extent to which the ruling parties of India and Sri Lanka have been complicit in this mass murder, requires public inquiry, asserts the CPSL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     Indeed, the Socialist Alliance <\/strong>(which includes the CPSL) has strongly condemned the National People\u2019s Power (NPP) government\u2019s \u2018deepening military cooperation with the USA<\/em><\/strong>\u2019, pointing to the recent transfers of intrusive \u2018US naval & aviation assets\u2019 (\u2018deep-sea surveillance & high-seas operations\u2026 designed for power projection\u2019), along with \u2018operational integration into US-led commands\u2019, as representing \u2018a dangerous abandonment of the country\u2019s longstanding non-aligned foreign policy. \u2022 The long-cherished demand by the countries of Asia & Africa for an Indian Ocean Peace Zone (IOPZ)<\/strong>, shelved by the present government, clearly needs to be<\/strong> revived, to prevent the \u2018expansion of war\u2019 <\/em>into the region<\/strong>. However, both the US & Europe (England, France etc) still maintain lethal war machinery in the Indian Ocean, from colonial West Asia to the French in Mayotte to the English & USA in Diego Garcia, all the way to settler colony Australia & killer-colony-in-everything-but-name: Japan? These imperialists are even still claiming faraway ownership of the Indian Ocean Seabed (France wants 20%!). Imperialism\u2019s stenographers in Sri Lanka keep struggling for euphemisms to describe the latest flagrant US war mongering: \u2018Middle East War Widens<\/em>\u2019 etc. But is it a \u2018Middle East War\u2019? Or just another one of the endless US wars<\/em><\/strong>, as against Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, ad nauseum\u2026 And did the colonials really leave our countries, enabling a 1,000 fake PhDs, to declare \u2018postcoloniality<\/em><\/strong>\u2019 in such a barely decent hurry?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     Without knowing what Independence<\/em><\/strong> or freedom actually entails (not just a new name, a new flag, a new song, or new clothes, ties, briefcases), without knowing that capitalism is about machine-making-machine industrialization, there was a rush northward to acquire Master\u2019s [or Slave\u2019s?] degrees in Postcolonialism<\/em><\/strong>. But, the beast is still not dead. Like some mythical monster (not from Munster), it arose 100-fold, with 100 heads\u2026 Those who did know, what real liberation means, were vilified, isolated, assassinated. Now, those they had most vilified, such as Joseph Stalin & Mao Zedong, who showed us way in the 20th<\/sup> century, on how to defeat Nazis & imperialists \u2013 only stand ever taller day by day!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

stated in Parliament today (06) that the country has<\/p>\n\n\n\n

fallen into a wartime-like situation<\/em><\/strong>,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

despite it being an undesirable development.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     India had invited Iran\u2019s navy<\/strong> to attend an International Fleet Review (IFR<\/em><\/strong> 2026) & MILAN 2026<\/em> exercises in Visakhapatnam, Kerala<\/strong>, hosted by the Indian Navy from February 17-25, which Sri Lanka & 73 other countries participated<\/strong>. US ships which were part of the exercises had left early; then a US submarine lay in wait for the Iranian ship. Local Kerala residents are recalling how the Iranian sailors had lived in camaraderie with their Indian, US & Sri Lankan counterparts. Vessels participating in such exercises are \u2018required to follow strict protocol, which includes not carrying ammunition<\/strong>\u2019. The Iranians had requested permission for their ships to stay within Sri Lankan territorial waters, after the US began their invasion of Iran \u2013 but was permission \u2018purposely delayed\u2019? (see Random Notes<\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Authorities determined that the ship would not be kept<\/p>\n\n\n\n

at Colombo Port because the harbor is the country\u2019s main<\/p>\n\n\n\n

commercial maritime hub, & the presence of a belligerent<\/p>\n\n\n\n

state\u2019s naval vessel could affect<\/p>\n\n\n\n

shipping activity & insurance costs.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 ee<\/em> <\/strong>wonders what belligerence<\/em><\/strong> means when the USA has a deadly addiction, to being at war somewhere in the world at any time \u2013 and is still allowed to park its countless lurking warships around our countries\u2019 commercial ports. There are also reports that the USA had threatened airstrikes on Colombo Port if the government allowed the Iranian ships into a completely legal safe harbor<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sri Lankan government says they have moved a 2nd<\/sup> Iranian ship to Trincomalee Port (long ogled by both the USA & India, not to forget England), so as not to give shipping insurers<\/strong> & trading companies<\/strong> further excuse to raise costs. It also turns out the Strait of Hormuz<\/strong> have been closed not by Iran (who clarified they would only deter tankers linked to the USA, Israel, England & others attacking Iran) but by the London-based \u2018International Group\u2019<\/strong>, which controls the 12 <\/strong>International Group of Protection & Indemnity Clubs<\/strong>, 7 of which, \u2018between March 1 and March 2\u2026 issued 72-hour cancellation notices for war risk coverage<\/strong> in the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman, and all Iranian territorial waters\u2019!      Meanwhile, Anglo-US state new service Reuters<\/em> reports that, Jayne Howell, the US embassy\u2019s charge d\u2019affaires in Colombo is demanding that Sri Lanka\u2019s government hold the Iranian sailors & survivors as prisoners<\/em> & prevent their repatriation to Iran<\/strong>. The USA also wants Sri Lankan authorities to \u2018minimise Iranian attempts to use the detainees for propaganda\u2019. However, what is not <\/em>propaganda<\/strong>? \u2013 as their media have daily & happily advertised their propensity for mass murder, from Gaza to everywhere, as it seeks to assert its \u2018full spectrum dominance<\/em><\/strong>\u2019? While many commentators claim this quickly spreading and escalating huge war is due to the Israeli government having proof of the US President & other powerful leaders\u2019 abuse of children, aka the Epstein Files, Sri Lankans as much as any in this world, know why and how we have been invaded for over 500 years\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     The US Secretary (Minister) of War, Pete Hegseth, claims the Iranian sailors suffered \u2018a quiet death\u2019<\/em><\/strong>. He says the USA will not follow \u2018stupid rules of engagement<\/strong>\u2019 in the course of this war, which has already seen the mass murder of 180 school girls, which brought no apologies, only a claim the school was misidentified <\/em>(by AI!!) as a legitimate military target<\/em><\/strong>. Hegseth\u2019s \u2018stupid rules\u2019 could be referring not to \u2018international law\u2019 (which the USA no longer even pretends<\/em><\/strong> to acknowledge!) but to the USA\u2019s own military codes that forbid the killing of survivors. The US Secretary of War, who clearly evinces schoolboy-like \u2018masculinity challenges\u2019, has already recently been accused of killing survivors of US airstrikes<\/strong> against fishing boats in the Caribbean<\/strong>. US military laws even cite the precedent of the Canadian hospital ship HMHS Llandovery Castle<\/em> <\/strong>which on 27 June 1918<\/strong> was torpedoed by a German U-Boat: Considered one of the deadliest Canadian naval disasters, 234 doctors, nurses, members of the Canadian Army Medical Corps, soldiers & seamen were killed in the sinking and subsequent machine-gunning of lifeboats<\/strong>. A German court in 1921 even sentenced the officers to years in prison for following \u2018illegal\u2019<\/em> orders<\/strong>. Germans would claim that England was holding a gun to its head at that time post-WW1. A declared crime, or war crime<\/strong>, however, also requires an accountable state or states (humans with weapons & handcuffs) to prosecute it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     So a crime<\/em><\/strong> has been committed \u2013 is the crime committed by those victims<\/strong> who allow it to happen?<\/em><\/strong> If a thief robs you, it is you who should be charged for allowing it to happen to you? \u2013 according to the French Marquis de Sade School of Law. Calls to morality & reason<\/em><\/strong> are what slaves, chained & unchained do \u2013 masters<\/strong> have no use for such whining, according to the German Frederick Nietzsche School of Masters<\/em><\/strong>. Here then is the thesis \u2013 who will provide the anti-thesis?<\/strong> (Ask, Hegel?). So where & how will the negation arise to synthesize? Ask Marx? Where is the negating \u2018negro<\/em>\u2019 who says No<\/em><\/strong> to the Master, says good night to day light? The sun never sets on their empire & its crimes, said the English, but yet it rises. Some infantiles on the other side, or war porn addicts, are egging & taunting Russia & China to intervene so as to spark \u2018world war\u2019 \u2013 though it is already a war on the world, and Sri Lanka has had war waged on it for over 500 years at least\u2026 The USA keeps hinting that they will even resort to nuclear weapons if their war doesn\u2019t go as planned, also increasingly whining & claiming that China & Russia are helping defeat their war machine in West Asia! The US embassy in Colombo, trying to appear cool under the collar and unperturbed, had to clarify that their \u2018suggestions\u2019 for \u2018Alternate Travel Routes to Citizens Due to Limited<\/em> Middle East Operations\u2019<\/strong>, was \u2018Not a Travel Advisory<\/em>\u2019. Meanwhile:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many commentators have already reported that the USA\u2019s military has been given unrestricted access<\/strong> to all Sri Lankan ports, including Hambantota port, & airports, through an Acquisition & Cross-Servicing Agreement (ACSA)<\/strong>, first secretly signed (7 pages) in 2007 for 10 years, and then secretly re-signed in 2017, with 10-times more concessions (83 pages), after the USA engineered & funded that awkward coalition of the Yahapalanaya<\/em><\/strong>, mashing together a rump SLFP, UNP & JVP in 2015. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

     Unable to force the then-President Maithripala Sirisena (who they had financed into power) to sign the SOFA (Status of Forces Agreement),<\/strong> which would allow US boots on Sri Lankan soil, nor finalize the MCC (Millennium Challenge Corporation)<\/strong> to enable deeper economic penetration, and also unable to prevent the election of Gotabhaya Rajapakse as President, they soon engineered a faux putsch<\/em><\/strong>, enabling his removal (but not his hanging), which ended up sending the country into \u2018the scaly arms of the IMF for a 17th<\/sup> time<\/strong>\u2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Was this MoU, \u2018a precursor to signing a SOFA with the USA? Will Sri Lanka\u2019s military, naval & air force infrastructure facilities, as well as Sri Lanka\u2019s ports & airports, be placed at the disposal of the US war machine? Is Sri Lanka to be a pawn in US military aggression in Asia?\u2019<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And so ee<\/em><\/strong> continues Chapter 8 of de Silva\u2019s classic The<\/em> Political Economy of Underdevelopment<\/em>, with an excerpt entitled, Trade & Monetary Exchange in a Precapitalist Economy \u2013 the Case of the Kandyan Kingdom of Sri Lanka<\/em><\/strong>. Indigenous Sinhala labour stopped working in the plantations due to the attempt to impose American-style slavery. Yet the attitude of the Kandyan Sinhala to \u2018being drawn into the plantation system, since it was in their areas that the coffee and tea plantations were mainly set up\u2026 is conventionally explained by their unfamiliarity with trade & the use of money\u2019. de Silva\u2019s a fascinating look, with detailed references, into the \u2018lively\u2019 internal and external trade (and smuggling) in the midst of invasion, and the role of the Muslim traders, despite the attempts to prevent people\u2019s access to salt and ammunition, as well as the flourishing trade in cinnamon. There are those who wish to tiptoe over the bloody marshes of past invasions, wearing the spotless shoes of  personal virtue, while ignoring the heroic role of the upcountry Sinhala, while attempting to play the exploited tea plantation workers, imposed from India, against them. These chapters offer a much-needed antidote to such faux histories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
