{"id":157261,"date":"2026-07-12T15:37:39","date_gmt":"2026-07-12T22:37:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=157261"},"modified":"2026-07-12T15:37:39","modified_gmt":"2026-07-12T22:37:39","slug":"sri-lanka-ranked-asias-most-traffic-congested-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2026\/07\/12\/sri-lanka-ranked-asias-most-traffic-congested-country\/","title":{"rendered":"Sri Lanka ranked Asia\u2019s most traffic-congested country"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Courtesy The Daily Mirror<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Colombo, July 12 (Daily Mirror) &#8211; Sri Lanka has been ranked the most traffic-congested country in Asia, according to the Numbeo Traffic Index by Country 2026 Mid-Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The latest index gave Sri Lanka a traffic score of 254.5, placing it ahead of Bangladesh (246.2), Iran (215.3), India (205.1) and Indonesia (191.1), which ranked fifth in Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indonesia, the largest and most populous country in Southeast Asia, was highlighted in the report as the fifth most traffic-congested nation in the region, underscoring the growing challenge of road congestion across Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The remainder of the regional top 10 comprised Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon, the Philippines, and Pakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam recorded comparatively lower traffic congestion levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Globally, Sri Lanka ranked as the third most traffic-congested country, behind Nigeria, which topped the list with a traffic index of 320.3, and Costa Rica.
