In Sri Lanka, it is awarded under the National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) Framework, which is regulated by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For <strong>welding<\/strong>, an NVQ Level 3 holder is expected to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Perform welding tasks independently with limited supervision.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Read and interpret basic engineering drawings and welding symbols.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carry out SMAW (stick), GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), or FCAW welding, depending on the training.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Follow workplace safety and quality procedures.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Produce welds that meet the required standards for general fabrication and construction.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Typical jobs include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Skilled Welder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fabricator<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Structural Steel Welder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintenance Welder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Workshop Technician<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Progression:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>NVQ Level 1\u20132:<\/strong> Basic operator\/helper.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>NVQ Level 3:<\/strong> Skilled tradesperson.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>NVQ Level 4:<\/strong> Craftsman or senior technician with advanced practical skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>NVQ Level 5\u20136:<\/strong> Diploma level (supervisory\/technical).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>NVQ Level 7:<\/strong> Bachelor\u2019s degree equivalent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For the <strong>marine, shipbuilding, and offshore industries<\/strong>, NVQ Level 3 is generally considered the minimum qualification for employment as a skilled welder.
