Because there is no alternative to Mahinda Rajapakse, as he is the only man worthy of holding the reins of Executive Presidency.

Others say that the opposition has not been able to present a candidate comparatively above or in level with the profile and the character of the President. What ever the critics say about the President Mahinda Rajapakse, the opposition candidate Maitripala Sirisena has not the personality, charisma, and the intellectual capacity of the President Mahinda Rajapakse.

President Mahinda Rajapakse is a captivating personality. His smile could disarm the worst of enemies. He speaks sense and of things practically possible to do, though some of what he has done every one thought was practically impossible . He is capable of handling any problem with extremely calm confidence. He does not get unnecessarily flustered or confused in the worst of circumstances. He takes time to think over and finally takes a decision acceptable to wrangling parties.

He is absolutely clean. Most of what others complain of him are made up or imagined. He is too kind to turn away people who are close to him despite their impossible character that bring disrepute to him. Mervyn or Duminda he could have easily turned them away but he tolerates them despite the annoyance they cause to him, as he is a great human being with a kind heart, who keeps them with him to stop them from falling into bad ways. That is his nature. Should these matters cloud his absolute sincerity and political wisdom to do exactly what is good for the country and the people ?

What wrongs has the President Mahinda Rajapakse done and what are his faults if any for the people to vote for another whose abilities have not been tested, and who is not qualified in any way to make a difference if elected ?

If there is to be a difference in the election of the rival candidate-Maitripala Sirisena, he should have a political philosophy which is remarkably superior to that of Mahinda Rajapakse. If he has any political wisdomat all he would not have allowed himself to be manipulated by political morons like Ranil Wickramasinghe and Chandrika.

President Mahinda Rajapakse has a collective of political parties in UPFA to support him in his election campaign and to carry out the proposals in the election manifesto- Mahinda Chintanaya after his election. But can we say the same of Maitripala Sirisena the opposition candidate ? Having had no political vision of his own he had got his election manifesto to be written by Champika Ranawaka.

Strangely Champika now supports the sleazy Rauf Hakim and defends him as a man who has no ulterior motive in joining the opposition in support of Maitripala Sirirsena. Ranil Wickramasinghe and Chandrika have their own motives for dragging in Maitripala Sirisena to be the opposition candidate . They are in fact helping themselves in pretending to help Maitripala Sirisena to win the election.

Maitripala Sirisena thinks that Tamil National Alliance and Rauf Hakeem are honest politicians who supports him for his good looks” and they have no ulterior motives. Rauf Hakeem and Sampanthan of TNA may fool Maitripala Sirisena, but they cannot fool the Sri Lanka voters. They- the voters, will understand that a vote for Maitripala Sirisena who is supported by TNA and Rauf Hakeem of SLMC, is a vote to divide Sri Lanka amoung the Tamils of the TNA and the Muslims of Rauf Hakeem and SLMC.

The way to stop this disaster is to vote for the President Mahinda Rajapakse.

Mahinda Rajapakse when he assumed the Presidency in 2005 assured the people that he will never allow Sri Lanka to be divided. He kept his word and brought the country under one flag and initiated under very difficult circumstance with constant barriers put before him by the TNA, a process of reconciliation of the Communities. He would have succeeded in that if the TNA had stopped its disruptive manoeuvres to mislead the Tamil people assuring them the setting up of a separate Eelam State.

That disruptive element- the TNA is now with the opposition candidate who has signed an agreement to set up an all Tamil Province in the North. This would be followed by the claim of Rauf Hakeem for a separate district in the East for the Muslim people.

That is the change Maitripala Sirisena is proposing backed by the motley crowd- Ranil, Chandrika, Sarath, Champika and Ratana, behind him. We can imagine what changes are afoot if the voters make a mistake in their vote casting it to the wrong person in place of the President Mahinda Rajapakse.

Ranil Wickramasinghe and Chandrika had been having political power before President Mahinda Rajapakse. But they were unable to make any changes then and how can they make any changes now after the President Mahinda Rajapakse has accomplished making all changes which they had miserably failed to do.

Therefore their slogan, vote for Maitripala Sirisena for a change”, is to fool the people as any change they can do now would be to undo every thing that has been done by the President Mahinda Rajapakse and return Sri Lanka back to what it was in 2005.

The right thinking people of Sri Lanka cannot allow that to happen therefore they should without any hesitation give their precious vote to the President Mahinda Rajapakse for him to continue his making changes” in Sri Lanka which he started in 2005.

When the President Mahinda Rajapakse took over the Presidency in 2005, he inherited a Sri Lanka which had been partly handed over to the terrorist by the Ranil-Chandrika duo. No one imagined what the President Mahinda Rajapakse could do with it. The USA and the West was demanding a political settlement which would have been handing over a merged North and East to the terrorists.

A military settlement was hardly imaginable with a demoralised Sri Lanka Armed Force with outdated arms and completely neglected by Ranil-Chandrika duo who had confined the the Armed Forces to the barracks with the terrorist having an upper hand with a CFA that had been signed by the Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe with the connivance of Chandrika the then President, with the terrorist leader Prabhakaran.

It would have been a daredevil” attempt to face a well equipped well trained terrorist force with the Sri Lanka Armed Forces in the sorry state that they were found. But it had to be a Mahinda Rajapakse to take that challenge without knowing what the outcome w as going to be.

That is the calibre of the man who is today challenged by a nincompoop who signs agreements with any one without considering the impact those agreements would have on the country with the sole desire of defeating the President Mahinda Rajapakse what ever would happen to the country.

President Mahinda Rajapakse has not sought to be the President of Sri Lanka for the prestige that comes with it, nor has he sought to be the President to enjoy the excellence of recognition amoung the people, nor the respect and welcome he gets here and abroad as a ruler. He has politics in his blood with deep rooted patriotic sentiments. He had dedicated himself from his youth to politics.

President Mahinda Rajapkse fought for human rights long before it was hoisted as an arm against developing countries by USA and the West. There were ideas fermenting in him that he would utilise one day for the betterment of his beloved country and the people. It seems to be that which he sought to do if he were to be the President of Sri Lanka.

Hence when he became the President in 2005 he knew what he was going to do with the office he had been endowed with. His Mahinda Chintanay is a document which contains the ideas that had matured during the whole of his political life. No President of any country in the world had presented a plan of action for the development of his country like the Mahinda Chintanaya. It contains every aspect of development in Sri Lanka.

He knew that a development plan of a country is long specially when considering the disastrous terrorism that had gone on fo thirty long years… without seeing an end to it. He knew that the Constitution had restricted a Presidents term of Office to two years. Can one complete the development process of a country utterly wrecked through terrorism and deprived of wealth, in two presidential terms?

But the President Mahinda Rajapakse planned the first term of his office that began in 2005 to eliminate terrorism, to bring peace and security to the people. That he succeeded to do.

Then began his second term in 2010. It was to rebuild Sri Lanka which had been devastated by the terrorists. It was also a period to begin reconciliation of the Communities and allow old wounds to heal. But this period saw intense activity by the USA and the West supported by the Sri Lanka Opposition led by UNP and the separatist politicians of the TNA to create a continuous campaign against the Government and the President Mahinda Rajapakse interposing violation of human rights as a tool for international agitation.

Despite these barrage of distracting interventionists the President Mahinda Rajapakse kept on developing the country according to the plan of development under Mahinda Chintanaya. The President Mahinda Rajapaksa with his calm disposition went ahead with his program of extending diplomatic relations in different directions of the Globe. He never brutalised the people, he was a father to the nation. He allowed complete press freedom despite their attack against him. He was an Executive President par excellence, never using his executive powers against the people or his critics. He never acted as a dictator though his antagonists say so expecting repercussions from he west.

It is during this period that the President Mahinda Rajapakse saw that despite the vast progress the country had made in different fields such as social, economic, and education there was a fall in moral discipline, increase in criminality , and vociferous claims of corruption. He saw that all that could not be attended to within the term of office left to him, and the accomplished politician he is saw that to clean up what remains to be cleaned and take the country forward he should continue in his office for another term. The Constitution was amended to allow him to contest the Presidential election for a further term in office.

We are today in the midst of the Presidential election campaign. It is very decisive not personally for the President Mahinda Rajapakse, but for Sri Lanka that was taken out of a 30 years of suffering under a ruthless terrorism to undergo an unprecedented transformation into a middle level income economy, streamlined with a network of highways with train services from the south to the north. Sri Lanka now has a sound economy. The country is supplied with electricity to almost every corner of the country. The higher and modern IT education , previously restricted to Schools in Colombo, are being extended to every village school. The towns in Sri Lanka are being beautified , and there is a marked progress in every aspect of life.

The continuation of this unprecedented transformation of Sri Lanka depends on the re-election of the President Mahinda Rajapakse . Therefore it is imperative that every patriot cast their vote unhesitatingly to the President Mahinda Rajapakse.

The contrary would certainly be a vote for a change” . A change which is not for progression, but for regression to uncertainty, fear , separation of territory, communal discord and possibly another step towards terrorism.

That is why we should vote for the President Mahinda Rajapakse.

By Charles.S.Perera Some say they would vote for the President Mahinda Rajapakse as there is no alternative. That however should not be the reason why we should vote for the President Mahinda Rajapakse.
