{"id":40590,"date":"2015-01-04T04:26:44","date_gmt":"2015-01-04T11:26:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=40590"},"modified":"2015-01-04T04:26:44","modified_gmt":"2015-01-04T11:26:44","slug":"2015-presidential-election-forecast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2015\/01\/04\/2015-presidential-election-forecast\/","title":{"rendered":"2015 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION FORECAST"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong>BY M D P DISSANAYAKE<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The total number of registered voters for the 2015 Presidential Election\u00a0 will be 15,044,090.\u00a0 In 2010\u00a0 the registered voters stood at 14,088,500 and the valid votes obtained by all candidates reached 10,393,613\u00a0 after allowing for the rejected votes.\u00a0\u00a0 Therefore, in\u00a0 2010 the net participation rate of valid voters represented 74%. The 2015 net participation rate of valid voters are likely to be between 74-76% with a likelyhood of greater participation of voters in Northern and Eastern Provinces.<\/p>\n<p>The following projections have been calculated on the basis of geographical and historical analysis of 2005\u00a0 and 2010 results using statistical\u00a0 analysis methods.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Eastern Province: Overall: MS 52% AND 48% MR<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>EP consisting Batticaloa, Digamadulla and Trincomalee are likely to favour Mr Maithreepala Sirisena (MS)\u00a0 with 52% as against the incumbent President Mr Mahinda Rajapakse (MR) 48%. Traincomalee and Digamadulla are\u00a0 likely to give distinct advantage to MS whereas\u00a0 MR is expected to lead\u00a0 marginally in Batticaloa .<\/p>\n<p><em>N<strong>orthern Province: Overall : 61% MS AND\u00a0 39% MR<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>NP consisting Jaffna and Vanni will give distinct advantage to MS with a lead of 61% of the valid votes, compared with 39% to MR.<br \/>\n<em><strong>Central Province<\/strong><\/em>:<strong>Overall: 52% MR AND 48% MS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In CP consisting Kandy, Matale and Nuwaraeliya, MS is\u00a0 likely to lead by about 2%\u00a0 in Nuwaraeliya, whereas Kandy and Matale are likely to be lead by MR by 51% and 61% respectively.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Southern Province<\/strong><\/em> : <strong>Overall:69% MR AND 31% MS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In SP consisting Hambantota, Matara and Galle, MR is likely to lead between 65-68% of the valid votes.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><em><strong>Western province:Overall: 62% MR AND 32% MS<\/strong><\/em><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In WP consisting Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara,\u00a0 MS\u00a0 is likely to obtain 48%, 33% and 30% respectively, compared with MR leading by 52%, 67% and 70%.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>North Western province<\/strong><\/em>:<strong><em>Overall:\u00a0 69% MR AND 31% MS<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NWP consisting Kurunegala and Puttalam are likely to be lead by MR with comfortable margins.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>North Central Province:Overall: 68% MR AND 32% MS<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>NCP\u00a0 consisting Anuradhapura and Pollonnaruwa will favour MR achieving nearly 65-68% of the valid votes.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Uva Province<\/strong><\/em>: <strong><em>Overall: 64% MR AND 36% MS<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>UP consisting Badulla and Monaragala are likely to give healthy lead to MR, particularly Monaragala giving almost 69-70%<br \/>\n<em><strong>Sabaragamuwa Province<\/strong><\/em>: <strong><em>Overall:\u00a0 70% MR AND 30% MS<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SP repesenting Ratnapira and Kegalle districts are likely to be lead by an overwhelming majority by MR.<\/p>\n<p>These forecasts have been prepared using statistical standard deviation and with an standard error of\u00a0 3% plus or minus.\u00a0 In summary our forecast\u00a0 is summarised as follows:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Worst case scenario to President Mahinda Rajapakse<\/strong>:<strong>62.28%<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Worst\u00a0\u00a0 case scenario to Mr Maithreepala Sirisena<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 :<strong>34.61%<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Best case scenario to President Mahinda Rajapakse: 65.39%<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Best case scenario to Mr Maithreepala Sirisena:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 37.72%<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chiran Jayathu Wewa!<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BY M D P DISSANAYAKE The total number of registered voters for the 2015 Presidential Election\u00a0 will be 15,044,090.\u00a0 In 2010\u00a0 the registered voters stood at 14,088,500 and the valid votes obtained by all candidates reached 10,393,613\u00a0 after allowing for the rejected votes.\u00a0\u00a0 Therefore, in\u00a0 2010 the net participation rate of valid voters represented 74%.
