Time was when Sri Lanka had no international significance and its petty affair relating to internal governance did not turn heads or arouse any semblance of fear in other nations. Things have changed since then \u2013 there have been quantum shifts in the relations between the Big Powers and new dangers (real or perceived) have moved to centre-stage. China has become a \u2018centre of concern\u2019 for the erstwhile\u00a0 Global Leaders who see its mighty economic strength – growing by the day – as a political challenge that must be met head-on if the Western Coalition is to retain its prime dominance in the world. Within this context of global jousting for pre-eminence, Sri Lanka may appear a mere bystander if not for the fact that our Island be-straddles a vital sea-route in China\u2019s growing commerce with Africa. West Asia \u00a0and Europe. The Chinese are \u2018on their toes\u2019 in this regard and have wooed successfully nations such as Sri Lanka to welcome the rise of the Great Asian Power. The so called \u2018MR Regime\u2019 that ruled Sri Lanka for a decade was seen by its \u2018enemies\u2019 as a participator or \u2018agent\u2019 of that political \u2018re-balancing\u2019 of global forces that alarmed the Western Coalition.<\/p>\n

Who are these enemies? More specifically, what nations and forces acted against the MR regime to attain the politico-strategic aims of the Grand Coalition referred to earlier? The did not act directly, of course but incited a campaign of hate and dissension that led to a proxy-government that had as its chief aim the erasure of the work and thought of a hugely successful political regime rather than to ensure the \u2018good governance\u2019 that was loudly talked about . Let us list \u2013 even belatedly – our international foes . Great Britain has been our detractor and antagonist that used the Tamil Card to demean us at every opportunity for decades. The So Called \u2018Commonwealth\u2019 had nothing common or fraternal in it\u00a0 – among its members was Canada \u2013 a long-time champion of Tamil Separatism and an enemy of Sri Lanka. The less said about countries such as Australia and South Africa\u00a0 the better as they cared more for the Tamils within than those in Sri Lanka. We must reserve a special place for India and the USA – as their open enmity \u2013even visceral hatred \u2013 of our country when led by MR is recent and well accounted for. Both feel the heat from the rising power of China and their recent camaraderie\u00a0 and common campaign against the MR regime\u00a0 expresses a political orientation that spells danger not only to Sri Lanka but to the Asian region as a whole<\/p>\n

Let us express our main point succinctly \u2013 No National Government of the Future in Sri Lanka can rise to power without the tacit approval of the Grand Coalition we spoke of earlier. India, The US and the UK will use all their covert powers to destabilize such a government. We have no friends in the so-called International Community that will back us with actions that go beyond mere words. There is No League of Buddhist Nations \u00a0nor Community of Buddhists to help Buddhist Lanka. It is Buddhist Lanka that\u00a0 is in terminal decline.<\/p>\n
