Godage and Brothers (Pvt) Ltd, Maradana

Many are the works of fiction, some by world famous writers such as D.H.Lawrence, on the subject of Jesus. Yet this book is one with a difference. It seeks to unravel the enigma that was Jesus of Nazareth by a probe into his subconscious mind, the latent ever simmering mirror of the innermost self from which the external visible entity derives its form and existence on the passing scene of time.

While being essentially imaginative, the book incorporates a vast process of thought which includes philosophy, theology, biblical knowledge, insights from world religions, as well as ancient and recent history, in its narrative. Its motive is not to reinforce the belief of a particular religions denomination but to present a unique world religious figure in a manner that transcends religious, racial, cultural and historical horizons.

The Jesus of this book is not the historical person the Catholic and the Christian Churches propose to believers, but one who grapples with his identity and mission from within a fertile mind field related more to mythology than to history. Such a phenomenon is not limited by space and time. What transpires within it is uninterrupted and ongoing. For not a moment is the subconscious mind inactive. It is permanently plugged to the memory and imagination, and its domain is the realm of dreams. This subconscious mind of Jesus, the book proposes, is one that derives its vitality from three different sources: Jewish, Egyptian and Indian. From within these fields, as remembrances of an ancient past and visions of a distant future, the hidden testament of Jesus emerges and evolves, unhindered by physical and mental barriers.

However the predominant quintessential element that permeates the subconscious mind of Jesus, giving meaning to his existence and mission, is the sacred feminine. Without it, points out the book, Jesus is a void and empty apparition, a form without a soul. This work therefore unambiguously asserts that woman is the primordial being of the manifest world, the surrogate form of the Earth, the primeval life giving force that pervades both womb and tomb, out of which everything, including the personification of the divine issues, and into which everything returns to reemerge anew. The divine feminine thereby emerges as the indispensable key in determining the real identity, mission and destiny of the man Jesus of Nazareth.

This is a truly unique work. It challenges the reader to surmount indoctrination and fear in the search for the truth, a truth which essentially, unequivocally and unquestionably is individual and personal.

Dr. Juanita REETZ Ph.D. University of Rochester, New York.
