{"id":42917,"date":"2015-04-06T14:35:23","date_gmt":"2015-04-06T21:35:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=42917"},"modified":"2015-04-06T14:35:23","modified_gmt":"2015-04-06T21:35:23","slug":"expat-lankans-donate-cardiac-catheter-lab-to-apura-teaching-hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2015\/04\/06\/expat-lankans-donate-cardiac-catheter-lab-to-apura-teaching-hospital\/","title":{"rendered":"Expat Lankans donate cardiac catheter lab to A\u2019pura Teaching hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>By\u00a0<strong>Janaka Perera<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>We are deeply grateful to expatriate Sri Lankans in Australia for facilitating the grant of a fully equipped Cardiac Catheter Laboratory to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital\u201d Health and Indigenous Medicine Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said at the opening of the first Angiography Unit at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, last week (April 02)<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Senaratne further said that this equipment was worth a sum of money in excess of Rs. 250 million.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/apurahosp.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-42918\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/apurahosp.jpg\" alt=\"apurahosp\" width=\"750\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/apurahosp.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/apurahosp-300x210.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In commending this gesture which would bring untold benefits to the people in Anuradhapura and adjoining Districts in the North Central Province, Dr. Senaratne also referred to an earlier facilitation by the same parties, of a grant of a Cardiac Catheter Laboratory to the Kurunegala Hospital in 2008.<\/p>\n<p> We are unreservedly indebted to Mr. Peter Koens, Bio Engineer, for securing the donation of this laboratory from a leading Hospital in Australia, and then utilizing his technical expertise and professional skills to install the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital \u201dsaid Mrs. Pushpa Hettiarachi, Solicitor and Secretary, Australia \u2013 Sri Lanka Council of Melbourne, who was largely instrumental in conceiving this project and playing a leading role in co \u2013 ordinating with Dr. Ananda Gunasekera, Deputy Director \u2013 General, of the Ministry of Health.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Christopher Ludowyk, Chairman, Australia \u2013 Sri Lanka Council of Melbourne, being an expatriate Ceylonese Burgher born in Kurunegala, said that he was glad to be of service to his country of birth, which he had left more than 50 years ago for Australia, and added that he continued to treasure very much his youthful memories of Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n<p>Among those present at the function were Hon.
