It is a tragicomedy. During her term the LTTE leader Parabakaran was recognized by the Asiaweek magazine as Asia\u2019s 48<sup>th<\/sup> most powerful person. Interestingly Chandrika was ranked 49<sup>th<\/sup>. Such is her record of winning the war!<\/p>\n<p>The Asiaweek volume was published in June 2000 just two months after the Elephant Pass debacle. It caused humiliation to Chandrika\u2019s ego. Media outlets were banned from publishing news and journalists suffered during this time. Ajith Rohana was killed around this time after exposing her and her prominent media advisor. Mylvaganam Nimalrajan, a journalist for the Virakesari newspaper, was shot dead at his home in Jaffna within months.<\/p>\n<p>The Asia Power 50 list of 2000 can be found here which was banned in Sri Lanka by the Chandrika administration.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/ASIANOW\/asiaweek\/features\/power50\/p5046-50.html\">http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/ASIANOW\/asiaweek\/features\/power50\/p5046-50.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Unashamedly Chandrika started writing secret letters to the LTTE leader around this time to introduce Norway as mediator in war and sham peace that followed.<\/p>\n<p>Chandrika survives on people\u2019s short memories. She must be reminded of her series of debacles that lost the war. By the time she left office in 2005 thanks to a Supreme Court decision, one fourth of the country was directly or indirectly ruled by the LTTE.
