I hoisted the National Flag. I thanked the former President Mahinda Rajapakse\u00a0 for his determination to end terrorism. I thanked him for finally eliminating terrorism.\u00a0 I thanked him for giving the necessary political leadership for the war against terrorism and for its success. I thanked Gotabhaya Rajapakse for coordinating the armed forces and taking the best men and women to defeat the ruthless evil forces of terrorism.<\/p>\n

I prayed to those men of the Armed Forces- officers, and soldiers who made\u00a0 this victory over the evil forces of terrorism possible.\u00a0 I sent waves of\u00a0 kindness and compassion for the\u00a0 health, happiness and contentment of\u00a0 those living\u00a0 valiant soldiers and transferred merit to those who\u00a0 had given their lives to save the motherland from terror.<\/p>\n

Today is the Victory Day<\/strong> on which every Sri Lankan should think of the 30 years of suffering under terrorism a \u00a0disaster that was terminated thanks to our Armed Forces. It is the day that we should pray that\u00a0 Sri Lanka \u00a0would never again allow terrorism to raise its head.<\/p>\n

We Sinhala Buddhists have no remembrance days.\u00a0 We have death anniversaries where we transfer merit to the departed.<\/p>\n

Today is the Victory Day<\/strong> \u00a0\u00a0for every one who loves \u00a0Sri Lanka our motherland\u00a0 to celebrate paying homage to our\u00a0 valiant soldiers who faced forces of terrorism of unknown strength and defeated them\u00a0 to redeemed the country from thirty years of\u00a0 suffering under terror.<\/p>\n

If the Tamils in the North and the East did not go through that suffering , well and good.\u00a0 But we\u00a0 our people in the boarder villages, our Ministers, our Priests and poor Buddhist devotees, school children, even passengers in buses, soldiers on vacation, Army and Police officers, \u00a0died under that miserable terrorism. That terror spread out to thirty years\u00a0 and through out that period \u00a0there wasn\u2019t perhaps a day that passed without some one \u00a0killed by the terrorists.<\/p>\n

At last we can breath the free air of our\u00a0 county Sri Lanka, where there is no fear of being shattered by a claymore bomb placed by a terrorist.<\/p>\n

Ranil Wickramasinghe and his UNP Ministers do not celebrate the Victory Day.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

They cannot as they are \u00a0no patriots who love this country.\u00a0 They would not have ever risked their lives to save it.<\/p>\n

They \u00a0of the UNP laughed at the valiant men of the Armed Forces who were risking their lives to save Sri Lanka.\u00a0 Ranil Wickramasinghe said that Toppiagal is a barren rock, Lakshman Kiriella said, any fool can fight a war, and Ravi Karunanayakam said\u00a0 the Armed Forces are going to Madavachchi saying they are\u00a0 going to Kilinochchi.<\/p>\n

How can these men of the UNP ever give credit to our Armed Forces, for those great deeds they have accomplished ?\u00a0 Ranil Wickramasinghe and his UNP Ministers are living in\u00a0 Sri Lanka and looking at USA.?<\/p>\n

Maithripala Sirisena who said he acted as the Minister of Defence too has no Victory Day<\/strong>.\u00a0 It is not by chance that he walked into a den of traitors.<\/p>\n

In Sri Lanka the Victory Day<\/strong> should be synonymous with peace and freedom.\u00a0\u00a0 It should be a day of celebration every where, where every one from school children\u00a0 to the young and old should participate.<\/p>\n

UNP may remove Victory Day<\/strong> from the calendar but it will remain in the heart of every one of us and should be retold to generations after, so that Victory Day <\/strong>will be remembered generations after generations.<\/p>\n

France has a Victory Day<\/strong> to\u00a0 celebrate the embarkation of the Allied Forces on the Normandy beach to chase away the Germans from the Occupation of France. \u00a0But our Armed Forces eliminated the terrorists single handed without the aid of any other Nation.\u00a0 Therefore ours is a greater Victory Day<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
