{"id":44481,"date":"2015-06-05T22:10:58","date_gmt":"2015-06-06T04:10:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=44481"},"modified":"2015-06-05T14:11:19","modified_gmt":"2015-06-05T21:11:19","slug":"ranil-wants-to-create-uk-type-serious-frauds-division","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2015\/06\/05\/ranil-wants-to-create-uk-type-serious-frauds-division\/","title":{"rendered":"Ranil wants to create UK-type \u2018Serious Frauds\u2019 division"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Courtesy \u00a0Adaderana<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today said that the government is currently in the process of cleaning up\u201d the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) and that they intend to establish a \u2018Serious Frauds and Financial Crimes Division\u2019 for this purpose.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why we have to start a Serious Frauds and Financial Crimes Division with the intention of following the Serious Fraud Office of the UK and legislating for it subsequently.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The SFO is an independent Government department that investigates and prosecutes serious or complex fraud, and corruption in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>Wickremesinghe stated that an Organised Crimes Division will be established next.<\/p>\n<p>You cannot have organized crime. You can\u2019t have commercial crime. You can\u2019t have these frauds,\u201d he said, after declaring open an International Arbitration Centre in Colombo.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the government is also looking at bringing in laws dealing with drug trafficking in Sri Lanka. Those things cannot be allowed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wickremesinghe further said: under President Maithripala Sirisena we\u2019ve got out of the job of controlling the Supreme Court.
