Elle Gunawansa and Professor Carlo Fonseka yesterday filed a Writ Application in the Court of Appeal requesting the Court to abolish the Financial Crime Investigation Division (FCID).<\/p>\n<p>The petitioners filed this Writ Application citing the Inspector General of Police as a respondent and also requested Court to declare the Gazette Notification issued to set up the FCID as illegal.<br \/>\nThe petitioners in their petition stated that the FCID was establish under Section 55 of Police Ordinance and had pointed out that the particular section in question was not empowered to establish any Police division to investigate crime or offences.<br \/>\nThey further stated that Section 55 of Police Ordinance empowered to look into the essential concerns of Police personnel.<br \/>\n&#8220;There are sufficient laws to investigate financial crimes and there were 64 divisions in the police to investigate financial fraud and corruption.
