All police stations in the Jaffna Peninsula will be shut down, when we come back to power,\u201d revealed Vjayakala Maheswaran, the UNP lead candidate for the parliamentary elections in the Jaffna electoral district.\"\"Vijayakala Maheswaran addressing the media<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

After filing the nomination for the Jaffna electoral district around 3.30 PM today at the Jaffna District Secretary\u2019s office, she spoke to the media persons at the entrance of the district secretariat.<\/p>\n

She said, I abide by the laws of this country, as I am a member of our Government.\u201d<\/p>\n

Unfortunately\u201d she said that the Police who are supposed to maintain law and order, peace, stability and harmony in this country are not doing so. She alleged that they are braking the laws of the land.<\/p>\n

Vjayakala Maheswaran said that all the police stations in Jaffna are housed in houses belonged to private persons and the police are occupying those houses forcefully without the consent of the owners of those houses and lands where those police stations are housed.<\/p>\n

She also alleged that it was these very policemen who are involved in aiding and abetting the use of narcotics in the midst of Tamil students and youths.<\/p>\n

When speaking in the midst of the media personnel , she pointed out that in the 2005 November Presidential election, UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe, failed to be victorious just because of 180,000 votes. She blamed Prabhakaran and LTTE for the defeat of the UNP leader in the election.<\/p>\n

She said just because Prabhakaran ordered the Tamils to boycott the Presidential elections after receiving a huge amount of money from the winning candidate, Ranil was forced to loose.<\/p>\n

If not for such cunningness of Prabhakaran, Ranil would have been the winner, because all the Tamils would have voted for him.<\/p>\n

She announced that no dictatorial forces in the country would prevent her from winning in the forthcoming parliamentary elections.<\/p>\n

Vijayakala is the former member of Parliament from the Jaffna electoral district and the wife of T. Maheswaran, a Member of Parliament, who was assassinated alleged to be by a government backed para-military group, in January 2008.<\/p>\n

Vijayakala contested the 2010 parliamentary election as one of the United National Party candidates in Jaffna District and was elected to Parliament.<\/p>\n

After the 2015 presidential election, she was appointed Deputy Minister of Women\u2019s Affairs by the newly elected President Maithripala Sirisena.\"\"Vijayakala’s posters seen in all the CTB buses in the district<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It is widely expected that she may retain the seat in the forthcoming parliamentary election.<\/p>\n

Along with her, there are a total of 09 Tamils and a Muslim, included in the UNP nomination list filed today.<\/p>\n

There are two allopathic doctors and businessmen contesting for seven elected seats available in the district electorate.<\/p>\n
