The pledges that they made to fulfill within 100 days prior to the dissolving of the parliament to obtain a mandate for good governance were aimed at winning the voters for a majority government under Ranil.

Let us make a careful analysis of pre and post election events to ascertain the true nature of the above statement. Announcement of presidential elections with two years remaining was a golden opportunity for India, western powers and America to intervene in Sri Lankan politics as they were not happy at all about the foreign policy of Mahinda Rajapaksa. At a time when America is loosing its grip on lot of countries of the world, it is not at all happy about the dealings of Mahinda Rajapaksa with countries like China, Iran and other non- western countries. They and Britain in particular have a soft spot for Tamil diaspora. It is said that some British politicians are funded by Tamil diaspora while political campaigns of Hillory Clinton in America are being funded by them.India has a grudge against him for being closer to China than to them and for economic reasons that may deny them potential investment opportunities by having the Port City in Colombo in which China is heavily involved. All these three parties wanted Mahinda Rajpaksa to negotiate a peaceful settlement with LTTE leader Prabhakaran for which he never gave in.

Mahinda Rajapaksa openly admitted that he was fully aware of him being monitored by the RAW, the secret police of India. Ranil Wickramasingle openly admitted that he was trained for about a month by America on how to topple the government of Mahinda Rajapaksa. Such a training obviously points out towards CIA involvement. The Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has its obvious reasons to oppose Mahinda Rajapaksa as their survival depends more on troubled waters rather than under a politically and economically stable government of the kind of Mahinda Rajapaksa. It was quite easy for the Tamil diaspora to organize Tamils against him. Despite what Mahinda Rajapaksa did to them by saving their kith and kin in northern and eastern areas, the Moslems are more often than not opportunists who will turn tables for their own benefit. There were other anti Buddhists elements who did not like the patronage given to Buddhism by Mahinda Rajapaksa. Accordingly, it became rather easy for all these elements to get together and organize a conspiracy against Mahinda Rajapaksa to topple him. This was sensed by veteran political analysts like professor Nalin de Silva and Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekara and on several occasions they appeared in press conferences and highlighted the gravity of this problem and how country can again fall back into instability and turmoil. Post election results show that they were quite right in their analysis. There is a saying that history repeats itself. When we look at S.W.R.D.Bandaranayake assassination in 1956, it was clearly evident that the imperialist elements who were not happy about his language policy, nationalization policy and the foreign policy were behind his assassination. This conspiracy was drawn out in such as way so as to kill two birds with one stone. Not only did they achieve their political aim but also they were able to defame Buddhism by using two prominent Buddhist monks as a cats paw. Even when Mahinda Rajapaksa was defeated, two prominent Buddhist monks Maduluwave Sobitha and Rathana were used similarly. Ranil Wickramasinghe’s government was responsible for the massacre of innocent Tamils in and around Colombo suburbs and setting fire to their venerated Jaffna library and also the massacre of close upon 60,000 Buddhist Sinhala youth when they suppressed the JVP rebellion. Yet, these monks wanted people to pin faith on him for good governance. Moreover, they were fully aware that Ranil Wickramasinghe deployed well known Island’s reconvicted criminals like Gonawala Sunil who was given a life imprisonment for raping a daughter of a judge to suppress his political opponents. He was not the only thug used by him for such purposes. Even when the JVP rebellion was crushed brutally including innocent people, It was Mahinda Rajapaksa who came forward to stop innocent killings by presenting facts to the relevant international authorities. It appears rather contradictory for the JVP to support the very people who are responsible for the massacre of their members so brutally. It is also rather ironical that none of the human right organizations uttered a word about these massacres which were so inhuman. The only explanation is that this government has always been pro western. It clearly displays the down right hypocrisy of these organizations who are always out to protect vested interest of the west. Yet they try their best to drag Mahinda Rajapaksa to International Court of Justice for the alleged disappearance of few Tamils during the war without considering in the least, the large number Sinhalese, Moslems and Tamils massacred by the LTTE for Elam.

Their nest step was to ensure that Mahinda Rajapaksa is driven away from politics for good and to destroy the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) so that Ranil Wickramasinghe will have no opposition at all for him to come into power. For this purpose they manipulated the weakest and one of the most senior members of the party Maithreepala Sirisena. They were able to persuade him to contest against Mahinda Rajapaksa while maintaining his ties with the SLFP. He was assisted by three breakaway Ministers of the Maithree Pila Rajitha Senaratna, Partalee Cahmpika Ranawake and Arjuna Ranatunga. Now Chandrika Bandaranayaka Kumaratunga who bears a grudge against Mahinda Rajapaksa appears on the scene under the guidance of British Interests to reinforce these forces.

Under the above background, it was rather easy for the Tamil diaspora and Tamil Nationalist parties to organize Tamil voters against Mahinda Rajapaksa.. Several unfortunate incidents deliberately created by using Buddhist monks helped to turn most of the Moslem votes against him. UNP was able to organize most of the Catholic votes in their favour. Combined effect of all these forces were able to topple Mahinda Rajapaksa by a small majority. Thus it clearly appears that the defeat of Mahinda Rajapaksa was not a revolution but a carefully planned out conspiracy.

Chandrapala Hitihamillage Some politicians claim that the defeat of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa and the appointment of a minority government under Ranil Wickremasinghe on January 8th was a revolution.
