Turkey\u2019s decision to shoot down a Russian bomber involved in an anti-terror mission against the self-proclaimed Islamic State terrorist group means that Ankara has effectively sided with IS.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Heading off\u00a0any denial of\u00a0this fact, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reiterated Turkey\u2019s role in\u00a0the terrorist group\u2019s illegal oil trade.<\/div>\n

Discussing the downing of\u00a0the Russian Su-24 bomber on\u00a0Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had harsh words for\u00a0his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0a press release from\u00a0Russia\u2019s Ministry of\u00a0Foreign Affairs, Lavrov pointed out\u00a0that, “by shooting down\u00a0a Russian plane on\u00a0a counter-terrorist mission of\u00a0the Russian Aerospace Force in\u00a0Syria, and one that did not violate Turkey\u2019s airspace, the Turkish government has in\u00a0effect sided with\u00a0ISIS.”<\/p>\n

“\u2026Turkey\u2019s actions appear premeditated, planned, and undertaken with\u00a0a specific objective.”<\/p>\n

Lavrov also pointed to\u00a0Turkey\u2019s role in\u00a0the propping up\u00a0the terror network through\u00a0the oil trade.<\/p>\n

“The Russian Minister reminded his counterpart about\u00a0Turkey\u2019s involvement in\u00a0the ISIS\u2019 illegal trade in\u00a0oil, which is transported via\u00a0the area where the Russian plane was shot down, and about\u00a0the terrorist infrastructure, arms and munitions depots and control centers that are also located there,” the statement read.<\/p>\n

“Sergei Lavrov specifically said that this act by\u00a0Turkey will have serious consequences for\u00a0Russian-Turkish relations and will not go unanswered.”<\/p>\n

Retired French General Dominique Trinquand made similar statements when speaking to\u00a0Sputnik earlier on\u00a0Wednesday.<\/p>\n

“[Turkey is either not fighting ISIL at\u00a0all or very little, and does not interfere with\u00a0different types of\u00a0smuggling that takes place on\u00a0its border, be it oil, phosphate, cotton or people,” he said.<\/p>\n

Turkey downed a Russian Su-24 bomber Tuesday, claiming that the aircraft violated Turkish airspace. The Russian Defense Ministry has released flight path data proving that Russian remained aircraft never left Syrian airspace.<\/p>\n

The incident left one of\u00a0the pilots dead, shot by\u00a0militants on\u00a0the ground after\u00a0ejecting. The other, Captain Konstantin Murahtin, was rescued.<\/p>\n

Russian President Vladimir Putin described the incident as\u00a0a “stab in\u00a0the back by\u00a0accomplices of\u00a0terrorists.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
