Undoubtedly, Mr Vasudeva Nanayakkara is one of\u00a0 the odd men out of the current team of the Joint Opposition.\u00a0 It is surprising to note his continuance with the Joint Opposition, instead of joining the so called government of good governance.\u00a0 Mr Nanayakkara can most certainly occupy a posh key ministerial position with the government, with all perks.<\/p>\n

Mr Nanayakkara tried twice before to become the President of Sri Lanka, in 1982 and 1999, receiving 0.26% and 0.28% of votes respectively.\u00a0 In 2015 general election, contesting with the UPFA of MR camp, he convincingly won the Ratnapura District, receiving 81000 votes and placed in the 4th position.<\/p>\n

It is no secret Mr Nanayakkara fear the presence of Messrs Gotabhaya and Basil Rajapakse in the MR camp.\u00a0 Mr Nanayakkara’s policies towards Sinhala Language and Buddhism are well documented.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 His sentiments are towards a United Sri Lanka instead of Unitary Sri Lanka.\u00a0 He is fighting for the rights of Tamils, but not for the rights of Sinhalese or Buddhists.\u00a0 Mr Nanayakkara’s continuation in the Joint Opposition, in our view, is a serious draw back.\u00a0 At a critical moment these groups may rally against MR policies, which will increase the stocks of the government of good governance instantly.<\/p>\n

During the period of Alutgama riots, the then Minister Mr Nanayakkara blamed\u00a0 Bodu Bala Sena as “setting fire to the country” (\u2018\u0db6\u0ddc\u0daf\u0dd4 \u0db6\u0dbd \u0dc3\u0dda\u0db1\u0dcf \u0dbb\u0da7 \u0d9c\u0dd2\u0dab\u0dd2 \u0dad\u0dd2\u0dba\u0db1\u0dc0\u0dcf\u2019.\u00a0 During the BBC interview, he questioned the President Rajapakse government, attacking it ” if this government is a government, why no action has been taken against organisations such as these”(\u0d86\u0dab\u0dca\u0da9\u0dd4\u0dc0 \u0d86\u0dab\u0dca\u0da9\u0dd4\u0dc0\u0d9a\u0dca \u0db1\u0db8\u0dca\u201d \u0db8\u0dd9\u0dc0\u0dd0\u0db1\u0dd2 \u0dc3\u0d82\u0dc0\u0dd2\u0db0\u0dcf\u0db1\u0dba\u0d9a\u0dca \u0db8\u0dda \u0d86\u0d9a\u0dcf\u0dbb\u0dba\u0da7 \u0d9a\u0da7\u0dba\u0dd4\u0dad\u0dd4 \u0d9a\u0dbb\u0db1\u0dd4 \u0db1\u0dd2\u0d9a\u0db8\u0dca \u0db6\u0dbd\u0dcf \u0dc3\u0dd2\u0da7\u0dd3\u0db8\u0da7\u201d \u0d86\u0dab\u0dca\u0da9\u0dd4\u0dc0\u0d9a\u0da7 \u0dc4\u0dd0\u0d9a\u0dd2\u0daf\u0dd0\u0dba\u0dd2 \u0dc0\u0dcf\u0dc3\u0dd4\u0daf\u0dda\u0dc0 \u0db1\u0dcf\u0db1\u0dcf\u0dba\u0d9a\u0dca\u0d9a\u0dcf\u0dbb \u0d87\u0db8\u0dad\u0dd2\u0dc0\u0dbb\u0dba\u0dcf \u0db4\u0dca\u200d\u0dbb\u0dc1\u0dca\u0db1 \u0d9a\u0dbb\u0dba\u0dd2.)These views of a Minister in the government against itself created doubts in the minds of Muslims.\u00a0\u00a0 Massive campaign of rumours were spread trying to establish a connection between Mr Gotabaya Rajapakse and\u00a0 the extremist group of BBS. These are political snakes under the carpet, similar to Maithreepala Sirisena.<\/p>\n

Both President Mahinda Rajapakse and Mr Gotabaya Rajapakse, together with Dinesh, Wimal, Udaya, Prasanna etc.\u00a0 have made it clear the war was against a group of terrorists in the Tamil community, winning the war was a major victory for innocent tamils.\u00a0 Mr Nanayakkara’s hatred attitude against sinhala buddhists, including buddhists monks deserve no place for him in the Joint Opposition.<\/p>\n

Mr Nanayakkara should strongly consider joining the government of good governance.\u00a0\u00a0 This will greatly help\u00a0 for the formation of clear cut policies on language, religion, unitary status by the Joint Opposition.\u00a0 It will not be possible to get rid of 13 Amendment to the\u00a0 existing constitution, or similar proposals in the\u00a0 new draft constitution, with the presence of members of parliament\u00a0 in Joint Opposition Group who are not committed to the basic rights of sinhalese and buddhists.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
