Press release\u00a0National University Teachers Association of Sri Lanka<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n

We wish to register our vehement protest against the statements made by Mr. Y.K. Sinha, HE the Indian High Commissioner, recently at the Taj Samudra Hotel in the presence of members of the Sri Lankan business community and Indian officials.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reading Mr. Sinha\u2019s remarks, we were left wondering whether this country is ruled today from Colombo or from New Delhi.\u00a0 He has the effrontery to make offensive remarks and to cast aspersions on political parties and personalities in our country.\u00a0 Mr. Sinha enjoys the hospitality of this nation, as a guest, only so long as he acts within the limits of diplomatic propriety and with due respect for the host nation.<\/p>\n

We denounce his conduct as preposterous. We would like to know whether the External Affairs Minister of India would tolerate similar behaviour on the part of foreign diplomats accredited to India and, if not, whether she endorses the conduct of her country\u2019s High Commissioner here.<\/p>\n

What we find especially worrying is the total disregard of mutual respect, which is the mainstay of international relations.<\/p>\n

We as patriotic university academics oppose the blatant violation of Sri Lankan sovereignty and dignity by the Indian High Commissioner. Sri Lankan government should consider declaring him persona non-graata.<\/p>\n
