Sri Lanka\u2019s Minister of External Affairs Mangala Samaraweera confirmed that video evidence of war time atrocities committed by Sri Lanka\u2019s armed forces was true.
\nLamenting the Mahinda Rajapaksa\u2019s dismissal of the video evidence, Mr Samaraweera said,
\nInstead, laughably, you gave it to forensic experts hired by the Defence Ministry in order to disprove the footage\u2019s authenticity. In fact, according to the information we have the video footage is not only authentic but was given to Channel 4 by members of the armed forces who themselves were deeply shocked at some of the acts carried out as a result of orders from above.\u201d
\nSri Lanka\u2019s current president Maithripala Sirisena is yet to accept<\/a> the No Fire Zone documentary evidence, which was made available in SInhalese, as fact.<\/span><\/span><\/span>In an open letter to former Sri Lanka president Mahinda Rajapaksa, Sri Lanka\u2019s Minister of External Affairs Mangala Samaraweera said that \u2018credit for winning the war must go to the security forces\u2019 adding that \u2018Prime Minister Ranil Wickrememsinghe was the mastermind\u2019 for the defeat of the Liberation Tamil Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).<\/p>\n

Mangala Samaraweera went on to add that the UNHRC resolution could e used to set up a mechanism that will fully clear the good name of the members of the army and all those against whom there are unfair allegations. True war heroes, as Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka has said, have nothing to fear from this transitional justice process.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mangala Samaraweera went on to provide a point by point rebuttal of Mahinda Rajapaksa\u2019s recent statement against the UNHRC resolution on accountability and reconciliation in Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n
