The Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC), a self-appointed non-governmental organization, heavily criticized the former president Mahinda Rajapaksa’s recent statement on the Office of the Missing Persons (OMP) established by the current government to investigate the enforced disappearances during the war. \u00a0Here is an excerpt:<\/p>\n

“It is one of the basic norms of a civilized society that crimes must be investigated, irrespective of whoever the suspects are. A civilized legal system could exist only on the acceptance of this fundamental norm that all crimes should be prosecuted. Prosecution of a crime is an imperative duty of the state. No state can make any exception to this rule except at the cost of undermining its own authority,” the human rights organization said.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Now compare this with the recent Jaffna University\u2019s assault of Sinhalese students by Tamil students and what the Tamil political leaders said:<\/p>\n

In a joint letter, Vigneswaran and Thavarajah said that the incidents in question should not be viewed from a purely criminal law standpoint.\u00a0 \u00a0We must first try to understand the underlying causes that led to their violent behavior. Thereafter, we must determine ways and means of dealing with such underlying causes and implement them. \u00a0This would ensure that such incidents will not be repeated,\u201d they said.<\/em><\/strong>

AHRC, very strangely we have not seen a statement from you about this pathetic (and violent) attack on hapless Sinhalese student in Jaffna, students who were out to exercise their basic human right to have an all-inclusive type of cultural event in that state funded university, instead of just a \u2018Tamil-culture-only\u2019 of an event as some racist (and undeniably violent) Tamil students demanded?<\/p>\n

Therefore, AHRC how about you at least now condemning this recent Tamil students\u2019 racist-violence in Jaffna University and telling these two evidently \u00a0\u2018misguided\u2019 (per your standards also that is) Tamil politicos that they are wrong, that you hold the firm view that:<\/p>\n

Would you do that AHRC? \u00a0Somehow I think not. \u00a0Why? \u00a0Because your anti-Buddhist Sinhalese bias has been all too evident over the past 20-odd years and we have seen it manifest in its most ugliest and hypocritical form especially during those times when the murderous LTTE terrorists would get an all too deserving decisive \u2018punishment\u2019 from the Sri Lankan forces.
