Concerned Sri Lankan Citizen<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n

From the time Ranil got into politics in 1970 to date, he has achieved very little for the country while causing a lot of damage. In 1994 he stopped the teaching of Sri Lanka history to children as a result of which the new generation have no idea of the 2600 years of our glorious past. Having lost elections over 29 times he was extremely unpopular and the UNP wanted to get rid of him as the leader of the party. However, he changed the constitution of the party so that while he was alive no one else could become the party leader in 2008. It is alleged that 60 UNP members defected to the UPFA during Ranil’s leadership.\u00a0Even the killing of Gamini Dissanayake has been attributed to Ranil W by none other than Maithripala Sirisena, the current President.\u00a0See: https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2016\/08\/30\/%E0%B6%9C%E0%B7%8F%E0%B6%B8%E0%B7%92%E0%B6%AB%E0%B7%92-%E0%B6%B8%E0%B7%90%E0%B6%BB%E0%B7%94%E0%B7%80%E0%B7%9A-%E0%B6%BB%E0%B6%B1%E0%B7%92%E0%B6%BD%E0%B7%8A-%E0%B7%83%E0%B7%92%E0%B6%BB%E0%B7%92\/<\/a><\/p>\n

Of course, much has been written about Ranil and Batalanda. I reproduce a note from Cerberus in Lankaweb below which says it all. Quote<\/p>\n

Some of the drivers at Sapugaskande whose vehicles were commandeered by the army told stories of how the army went into villages and rounded up any youth who were hanging around since they were unemployed and asked them to dig pits and lined them up before the pits and shot them.\u00a0That is how the Minister for Youth Affairs Ranil W solved the unemployment problem of the country.<\/u>\u00a0<\/strong>He has been protected by the West for their own purposes and now the “Dittha\u00a0Dhamma Vedaniya Kamma Vipaka” is hitting the West.\u00a0Ranil W as soon as David Cameron resigned immediately appointed Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka as a Minister so that he has a big boy to protect him.<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0Ranil is a psychologically warped human being and when he is dying one day as we all do I do not know how he will come to terms with all the pain and death he caused so many people.” Unquote.<\/p>\n

During the war, he signed the infamous ceasefire agreement with the LTTE without showing it to Parliament or the President and in exchange was willing to hand over 2\/3 of the country to the LTTE. Luckily President CBK at that time in 2002 removed him from office. He also prevented the removal of Prabhakaran\u00a0and destroyed the elite group who were going to remove Prabhakaran. He was so unpopular that he knew he could not run directly for office.<\/u><\/strong> So he ran with Sarath Fonseka as a front in 2010 and with My3 as a front in 2015. When My3 was elected the President he appointed RW as Prime Minister\u00a0when there was an already existing Prime Minister and Parliament,\u00a0which was against the Constitution<\/strong>. My3 said it was because the west wanted RW as Exec PM. See:\u00a0http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2015\/04\/18\/ranil-must-be-pm-i-am-ordered-to-do-so-by-india-west-president-sirisena\/<\/a>. \u00a0RW, in turn, appointed Paskaralingam, a well known Govt servant who is supposed to have amassed an immense amount of wealth under a previous President and had gone abroad, as head of the Treasury, and also\u00a0a Singaporean citizen, Arjun Mahendran,\u00a0as the Governor of the Central Bank. The Central Bank called for an auction of Bonds to a value of Rs 1 billion at 9.5% then accepted a bid of Rs 10 billion at 12.5% from Mahendran’s son-in-law’s company Perpetual Treasuries where Rs 7 billion was lined up through the Bank of Ceylon. A\u00a0cool 3.4 billion went to pay the Sirisena campaign debts and some leftovers to the pockets of those who planned the heist I think.<\/p>\n

RW immediately covered up by appointing a committee and when due to public outrage My3 asked him to remove Mahendran RW just ignored My3. There was a second bond issue and after that, there was a COPE report and Mahendran was removed and Dr. Coomaraswamy was appointed. RW then promptly appointed him to another Senior Post.<\/p>\n

So what has either My3 or RW achieved since their appointments in Jan 08’15? When you look at the 100 days plan one of the main highlights of the program was the elimination of the Presidency and creation of the Westminister type Govt. As far as I can see very little of what was promised was achieved. My3 is still sitting as the President doing very little other than globe-trotting, shaking the Queen’s ungloved hand and opening various buildings built by MR Govt while putting the cornerstones with his name on it. One of the priests in Batticaloa\u00a0got so mad that he had taken a sledgehammer and broken it up. See:\u00a0http:\/\/lankacnews.com\/sinhala\/main-news\/145210\/<\/a><\/p>\n

RW created an FCID which was also illegal since the Police had a CID. Then My3 also created his own Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and Inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption, and Abuse of Power State Resources and Privileges. During the last almost two years the only work they have done is to go after the Rajapakse Govt members and officers and the army intelligence. Right now there are 9 intelligence officers of the army in remand without a shred of evidence against them.<\/p>\n

How about the promises of RW? He and the UNP did a major tilt to the West hoping for major financial help from them. The went to the extent of co-sponsoring the USA sponsored UNHRC resolution. As a result, even countries friendly to Sri Lanka could not help since Sri Lanka itself had sponsored a resolution against its own self.<\/p>\n

Before the election, he kept on blasting China and calling MR Govt idiots for going to the Chinese for help. So far very little help has manifested from the West.<\/p>\n

RW took 40 of his favorites and went to the Davos conference in Switzerland. This is one of the most expensive cities in the world where a room can cost up to $2000\/night. He thought he could get all the billionaires who were there such as Soros to invest heavily in Sri Lanka. He was very disappointed. I wonder how much the whole trip with expenses such as Mahendran’s expense report of $11,000 cost Sri Lanka? How many maids would have had to go to the middle east and work for that money to be burnt by these jokers?<\/p>\n

He made lavish promises of free Wi-Fi, a Volkswagen car factory in Kurunegala, etc. He promised very high raises to all public servants, cheap fertilizer to farmers, solve kidney problems in the NC province, cheap cars for anyone to purchase, a Megapolis by combining greater Colombo area. Nothing has manifested so far.<\/p>\n

He went to China to negotiate regarding the Port City after debunking it as a white elephant in February this year. China was supposed to start on it immediately. So far nothing has happened. There was a big announcement that China has now decided to not penalize Sri Lanka for the delays in the project. Now it appears that the reason was because GoSL agreed to give an extra 2 hectares on a 99-year lease in additional to the original 2-hectare land. Now he is promising a big development plan next year same as what he did last year.<\/p>\n
