Sri Lanka is in danger of not meeting a spot in the top 8 Test Teams, to be able to automatically qualify for the 2019 ODI World Cup.\u00a0 Judging by the current standings and the upcoming matches between now and September\u00a0 this year ( cut-off date )\u00a0 the following Test\u00a0 Teams are vying for the 7 and 8 spots.\u00a0\u00a0 They are:\u00a0 Bangladesh,\u00a0 Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

Angelow Mathews role as Sri Lanka skipper has not improved Sri Lanka rankings\u00a0 for the past few years.\u00a0 Physically he has not been fully fit on most of the recent years.\u00a0 Consequently, his overall contribution as an all rounder has eroded.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The next player in the team\u00a0 under the disguise of an all rounder is Tissara Perera.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He is a disaster.\u00a0 Consistently inconsistent, totally unreliable and undependable, has failed to score a single century even though he has played well over 100 one day internationals.\u00a0 The bowling average was also above\u00a0 30\u00a0 and his fielding had been a nightmare.\u00a0 He has never taken 5 wicket haul so far in any single match.\u00a0\u00a0 But\u00a0 he has sufficient stock of flesh,\u00a0 massive wealth through IPL and abundance of Gold, but less than an ounce of cricketing brain.\u00a0 He is impatient and is not a role model for young players.<\/p>\n

With Sanath Jayasuriya at the helm, we cannot understand what qualifies Tissara Perera\u00a0 to be in the team.\u00a0 We need several all rounders in the team.\u00a0 After Sanath Jayasuriya, the only other all rounder we had was Dilshan Tilekeratne.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There is no one to match Dilshan in field, in the team now.<\/p>\n

We ask the decision makers to make a thorough assessment before it is too late.\u00a0\u00a0 In order to build a massive pool of all rounders, more specialised training and development programs\u00a0 must be put in place\u00a0 for players such as Milinda Siriwardene, Chamara kapugedera, Asela Gunaratne, Dananjaya De Silva, Nuwan Kulasekera, Sekkuge Prasanna, Jeevan Mendis, Chaturanga De Silva, Sachit Pathirana and Isuru Udana.\u00a0\u00a0 These 10 all rounders will provide the backbone for the team.\u00a0 Please stop USING players\u00a0 in stop-gap ad-hoc manner, just to win matches.\u00a0 For example: recalling Nuwan Kulasekera to the team after losing to Bangladesh.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wicket keepers by nature are poor fielders and we have far too many of them in the regular team. We need\u00a0 at least 5 all rounders instead\u00a0 in every match capable of bowling\u00a0 a minimum of 30 overs\u00a0 and scoring\u00a0 minimum 90 runs.<\/p>\n

We all acknowledge that politics dominate Sri Lankan Cricket.\u00a0 We need to pool the local resources of Arjuna Ranatunga, Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Dilshan Tilekeratne, Muthtiah Muralithan, Jehan Mubarak\u00a0 to provide support for Sanath Jayasuriya.<\/p>\n

We have failed to recognize the calibre of local talents in offering key coaching positions.\u00a0 We have been chasing foreigners, except David Whatmore\u00a0 no one else made a genuine contribution.\u00a0 At half the cost of a foreign coach, we could find many super past players who can speak our language, understand the culture.<\/p>\n

Of course they might not understand the dirty politics.\u00a0 Neither foreign coaches did.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
