Colombo, May 14 (newsin.asia): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has told the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) that he has warned Sri Lankan President Mithripala Sirisena that undue delays in addressing the outstanding issues of the minority Tamils, including the drafting of a suitable constitution to address their political grievances ,will only result in Sri Lanka\u2019s coming under international scrutiny and pressure.<\/p>\n

Modi said this in a 15 minute meeting with a TNA delegation led by the Leader of the Opposition in the Sri Lankan Parliament, R.Sampanthan. It was not a scheduled meeting but was arranged at the last moment just before Modi took the flight back home on May 12.<\/p>\n

Sampanthan briefed Modi about the outstanding issues such as the release of lands\u00a0 by the military and delays in the constitution making process. Modi was told that there are divisions among the government\u2019s coalition partners on key issues like the abolition of the Executive Presidency. These issues are delaying the drafting of the new constitution and making the Tamils wonder if\u00a0 a new\u00a0 constitution will see the light of day at all.<\/p>\n

To this Modi said that he had raised\u00a0 these issues with Prime Minister Wickremesinghe when the latter visited New Delhi last ,and had mentioned them to the President at the dinner hosted by the latter on May 11.<\/p>\n

Modi said that it is important for the TNA itself to be united. India on its part will take up the Tamils\u2019 issues with the Sri Lankan government even as it aids economic development in Sri Lanka, including the Tamil areas in the North and East.<\/p>\n

In the normal course, the Indian Prime Minister would have met the TNA before meeting the President. But this time, he did not, because the schedule was very tight given the short stay in the island.<\/p>\n

He also did not want to use the visit for political discussions with various parties as it was primarily meant to be linked to a religious-cultural event \u2013 the International Vesak Day observances.<\/p>\n

Modi also wanted to focus this time on reinforcing links with the Tamils of Indian Origin. He formally opened a hospital for them at Dikoya and addressed a public meeting\u00a0 at the Norwood estate in the tea plantation district of Nuwara Eliya.<\/p>\n

I have no doubts\u00a0 how Modi was received at Dick oya and how meekly and\u00a0 insignificant both of the looked lie in front of Modi<\/p>\n

Do they (President and PM) still believe they are the President and Prime Minister Heads of this country?\u00a0 How long are we going to tolerate this sell out?<\/p>\n

Where are the Mahanayaka Theras and other patriotic Mahasangha, who protected this country, the Sinahla nation and the Sasana. If all of them are sleeping what can we do. Why don\u2019t these people rise up against the subservience and get down the President and PM to a meeting at Sri Daladamaligawa presided \u00a0over by the four Mahanayaka Theras and tell them to run this country properly and get out if the cant do it.<\/p>\n

I am sure most of you must have seen the Dikoya\u00a0 meeting how the Estate Tamils received MODi as a Indian Emperor. Also how arrogantly the Tamil leaders present there lead by Mano\u00a0 Ganeshan behaved. You also would have seen the how Modi addressed the crowd as if he is addressing the subjects of his 30th<\/sup> state<\/p>\n

All these things put together what is the message you all have got?<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t you think that we have almost come to the end of the journey as\u00a0 an independent, sovereign State thanks to Sirisena and Ranil<\/p>\n
