{"id":68002,"date":"2017-07-20T12:50:27","date_gmt":"2017-07-20T19:50:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=68002"},"modified":"2017-07-20T12:50:27","modified_gmt":"2017-07-20T19:50:27","slug":"bring-forth-a-federal-constitution-now-if-you-can-wimal-challenges-govt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2017\/07\/20\/bring-forth-a-federal-constitution-now-if-you-can-wimal-challenges-govt\/","title":{"rendered":"Bring forth a federal constitution now if you can, Wimal challenges Govt."},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"news-author\">\n<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>By\u00a0Ayshwarya Yapa\u00a0Courtesy Ceylon Today<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"news-content\">\n<p>Leader of the National Freedom Front (NFF), Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa challenged the Government to now bring forth a federal Constitution, with the Constitutional Assembly being rendered invalid after he and four other parliamentarians left the Assembly yesterday (19).<\/p>\n<p>Weerawansa stated this upon attending a press conference of the NFF at the party headquarters in Pitakotte today (20).<\/p>\n<p>He stated that they had been made members of the Constitutional Assembly automatically, owing to their parliamentarian status.<\/p>\n<p>He proceeded to remind that the NFF had refrained from participating in activities of the operation committee and 6 sub-committees right from the start.<\/p>\n<p>Weerawansa also added that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe\u2019s aim had been to form an external Constitutional Assembly separate from the Parliament, and create a draft Constitution and bring the relevant agenda to the Parliament.
