Several dozen firearms and boxes of ammunition were looted by the attackers from the border posts. The attack resulted in the deaths of nine Buddhist border officers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; margin: 6.0pt 0cm 6.0pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">On 11 October 2016, four Buddhist \u00a0<a title=\"Burmese Army\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Burmese_Army\"><span style=\"color: #0b0080;\">Burmese Army<\/span><\/a>\u00a0soldiers were killed on the third day of fighting.<sup id=\"gmail-cite_ref-BBC3_32-1\" style=\"unicode-bidi: isolate;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rohingya_insurgency_in_Western_Myanmar#cite_note-BBC3-32\"><span style=\"color: #0b0080;\">[32]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; margin: 6.0pt 0cm 6.0pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">On 15 November 2016, the Burmese Army announced that 69 Rohingya insurgents and 17 security forces (10 policemen, 7 soldiers) had been killed in recent clashes in northern Rakhine State, bringing the death toll to 134 (102 insurgents and 32 security forces). It was also announced that 234 people suspected of being connected to the attack were arrested.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; margin: 6.0pt 0cm 6.0pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">In March 2017, a police document obtained by Reuters \u00a0\u00a0listed 423 Rohingyas detained by the police since 9 October 2016. The police justified the arrests saying, &#8220;We the police have to arrest those who collaborated with the attackers\u2026.&#8221; Myanmar police also claimed that children had confessed to their alleged crimes during interrogations. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; margin: 6.0pt 0cm 6.0pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">On 25 August 2017, the government announced that 71 people (one soldier, one immigration officer, 10 policemen and 59 insurgents) had been killed overnight during coordinated attacks by up to 150 Rohingha Muslim insurgents on 26 police posts and the 552nd Light Infantry Battalion army base in Rakhine State. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; margin: 6.0pt 0cm 6.0pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">On 25 August 2017, the Central Committee for Counter Terrorism of Myanmar declared the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army\u00a0 (ARSA) a terrorist group in accordance with the country&#8217;s counter terrorism law.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; margin: 6.0pt 0cm 6.0pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><b><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">ARAKAN ROHINGYA SALVATION ARMY\u00a0(ARSA)<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; margin: 6.0pt 0cm 6.0pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">The ARSA is led by\u00a0<a title=\"Ata Ullah\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ata_Ullah\"><span style=\"color: #0b0080;\">Ata Ullah<\/span><\/a>, a Rohingya Muslim man who was born in\u00a0<a title=\"Karachi\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Karachi\"><span style=\"color: #0b0080;\">Karachi<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0 <a title=\"Pakistan\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pakistan\"><span style=\"color: #0b0080;\">Pakistan<\/span><\/a>, and grew up in\u00a0<a title=\"Mecca\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mecca\"><span style=\"color: #0b0080;\">Mecca<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0 <a title=\"Saudi Arabia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saudi_Arabia\"><span style=\"color: #0b0080;\">Saudi Arabia<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background-image: initial;
