{"id":76769,"date":"2018-04-24T15:07:24","date_gmt":"2018-04-24T22:07:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=76769"},"modified":"2018-04-24T15:07:24","modified_gmt":"2018-04-24T22:07:24","slug":"sri-lanka-slams-reports-of-chinese-militarization-of-hambantota-port","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2018\/04\/24\/sri-lanka-slams-reports-of-chinese-militarization-of-hambantota-port\/","title":{"rendered":"Sri Lanka slams reports of Chinese militarization of Hambantota Port"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>By\u00a0<span class=\"author vcard\"><a class=\"fn\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/newsin.asia\/author\/editor\/\" rel=\"author\">Editor<\/a><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0Courtesy NewsIn.Asia<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Colombo, April 23 (newsin.asia) \u2013 Sri Lankan Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, has strongly denied reports of Chinese militarization of the Chinese funded Hambantota Port, in southern Sri Lanka, and stressed the Sri Lankan Navy was the sole military force responsible for the security of the Port.<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>During discussions with China\u2019s Ambassador to Sri Lanka,\u00a0Cheng Xueyuan, Wickremesinghe said some foreign media irresponsibly hyped the question of militarization of the Hambantota Port out of their own hidden agenda, but time would eventually prove that the Hambantota Port was destined to embrace a prosperous and bright future in business.<\/p>\n<div class=\"google-auto-placed ap_container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Sri Lanka slams reports of Chinese militarization of Hambantota Port\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/newsin.asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Hambantota-port.jpg?fit=701%2C446&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"Sri Lanka slams reports of Chinese militarization of Hambantota Port\" width=\"512\" height=\"326\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Responding to the allegations of Chinese militarization at Hambantota Port, Ambassador Cheng pointed out that there was no military purpose for China to conduct friendly and pragmatic cooperation with Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n<p>China never interferes in Sri Lanka\u2019s internal affairs and is willing to work with the Sri Lankan side to push forward the latter\u2019s economic and social development by promoting new type of international relations featuring mutual respect, fairness and justice, win-win cooperation,\u201d the Ambassador said.<\/p>\n<p>He further said\u00a0China attached great importance to the relations with Sri Lanka, and wished to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries to actively\u00a0push forward the practical cooperation under the framework of Belt and Road Initiative, so as to bring tangible benefits to the two countries and peoples.<\/p>\n<p>In discussions with Sri Lanka\u2019s Navy Commander S.
