{"id":77368,"date":"2018-05-14T15:38:25","date_gmt":"2018-05-14T22:38:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=77368"},"modified":"2018-05-14T15:38:25","modified_gmt":"2018-05-14T22:38:25","slug":"china-approves-loan-of-us-1-billion-for-mega-central-expressway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2018\/05\/14\/china-approves-loan-of-us-1-billion-for-mega-central-expressway\/","title":{"rendered":"China approves loan of US 1 billion for mega Central Expressway"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Courtesy NewsIn.Asia<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Colombo, May 14 (newsin.asia) \u2013 China, on Monday approved a loan of US 1 billion dollars to construct the phase one of the Central Expressway in Sri Lanka, the Prime Minister\u2019s office said in a statement here.<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>China\u2019s Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Cheng Xueyuan met Prime Minister Ranil\u00a0 Wickeremesinghe in capital Colombo and said instructions had been given to China\u2019s EXIM Bank to process the loan.<\/p>\n<p>The Ambassador requested the Sri Lankan side to expedite administrative and legal formalities.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"China approves loan of US 1 billion for mega Central Expressway\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/newsin.asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Central-Expressway.jpg?fit=701%2C408&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"China approves loan of US 1 billion for mega Central Expressway\" width=\"598\" height=\"348\" \/><\/p>\n<p>During discussions, Ambassador Cheng and Prime Minister Wickremesinghe also discussed the Hambantota port project, in southern Sri Lanka and the Colombo Port City project.<\/p>\n<p>With regard to Hambantota Port, the Chinese Ambassador mentioned that they encourage investors to set up factories for producing high end products.
