{"id":79147,"date":"2018-07-09T20:54:17","date_gmt":"2018-07-10T02:54:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=79147"},"modified":"2018-07-09T13:39:27","modified_gmt":"2018-07-09T20:39:27","slug":"uk-us-should-tell-un-to-withdraw-motion-on-sri-lanka-naseby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2018\/07\/09\/uk-us-should-tell-un-to-withdraw-motion-on-sri-lanka-naseby\/","title":{"rendered":"UK, US should tell UN to withdraw motion on Sri Lanka: Naseby"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Courtesy The Daily Mirror<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>British Baron\u00a0Lord Naseby\u00a0said both the UK and the US were guilty of atrocities and that the two countries should inform the UN Human Rights Commission to withdraw the resolution against Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n<p>Lord Naseby,\u00a0the President of the All\u00a0Party British Sri Lanka Parliamentary Group,\u00a0said\u00a0this after reading the UK Parliament&#8217;s Intelligence and Security Committee report published on\u00a0June 28.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Saturday, Lord Naseby said he was shocked and appalled that the UK should not\u00a0only condone Torture and\u00a0extensive mistreatment of prisoners but actually in certain cases instigate it.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.dailymirror.lk\/media\/images\/image_1507912943-291345bfd3.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To me as a senior Politician of 44 years in Parliament whatever the threats may be, such practices are\u00a0totally unacceptable.\u00a0As I read the report I reflected on the nearly 30 years of fighting in Sri Lanka between the forces of the\u00a0democratically elected Government and the LTTE Tamil Tigers, the worst Terrorist Body in the World and proscribed in over 30 countries: a War that only ended on May 18,\u00a02009 with the total defeat of the Tamil\u00a0Tigers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said now they\u00a0know the truth that the UK and the US were really guilty themselves of atrocities.<\/p>\n<p>In my opinion these\u00a0two nations should now tell the Human Rights Commission in Geneva to withdraw the motion against Sri\u00a0Lanka.After all it is already clear that good progress is being made to find out the missing persons, enact a\u00a0new Prevention of Terrorism Act and\u00a0create an independent Truth &amp; Reconciliation Commission. Both the\u00a0UK and\u00a0the US must know their actions total undermine the UN Charter and\u00a0its Human Rights provisions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said even now they\u00a0do not know the whole truth behind &#8216;Detainee Mistreatment &amp; Rendition&#8217; including torture as\u00a0the UK Government have refused to publish all the material they have.<\/p>\n<p>One wonders why in terms of Sri\u00a0Lanka the UK government refused to release the Gash Despatches in full.\u00a0It is increasingly clear to me that these refusals may well hide data that in the case of Sri Lanka will\u00a0exonerate the actions of Sri Lanka&#8217;s forces or they will expose some actions that the UN\/ UK\/USA took to\u00a0undermine Sri Lanka and their publication would in effect fully vindicate Sri Lanka,\u201d\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Courtesy The Daily Mirror British Baron\u00a0Lord Naseby\u00a0said both the UK and the US were guilty of atrocities and that the two countries should inform the UN Human Rights Commission to withdraw the resolution against Sri Lanka.
