{"id":79592,"date":"2018-07-25T23:46:01","date_gmt":"2018-07-26T05:46:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=79592"},"modified":"2018-07-25T15:57:08","modified_gmt":"2018-07-25T22:57:08","slug":"sri-lankas-tuk-tuk-drivers-to-serve-as-local-tourist-guides-soon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2018\/07\/25\/sri-lankas-tuk-tuk-drivers-to-serve-as-local-tourist-guides-soon\/","title":{"rendered":"Sri Lanka\u2019s tuk tuk drivers to serve as local tourist guides soon"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Courtesy NewsIn.Asia<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Colombo, July 24 (newsin.asia) \u2013 Sri Lanka\u2019s Finance\u00a0Minister, Mangala Samaraweera, on Tuesday said the island would soon have \u2018tourist friendly tuk-tuk\u2019s\u2019 as three-wheeler\u2019s\u00a0would now not only be a mode of transportation, but the tuk tuk drivers would also serve as local tourist-guides.<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>With more than 1 million three-wheeler drivers in Sri Lanka, Samaraweera said the three-wheeler industry was indeed a major sector of the country and the \u2018Sri Lankan tuk\u2019 had in fact become something of an icon as it was used in myriad aspects.<\/p>\n<p>It is an affordable means of transport for small business, providing last mile connectivity for SMEs and entrepreneurs. Three wheelers are a means of affordable private transportation as well, and is increasingly popular in the tourism industry,\u201d Samaraweera said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Sri Lanka\u2019s tuk tuk drivers to serve as local tourist guides soon\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newsin.asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/tuk-tuk.jpg?fit=701%2C467&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"Sri Lanka\u2019s tuk tuk drivers to serve as local tourist guides soon\" width=\"431\" height=\"287\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He said\u00a0thus far 589 drivers had undergone training to serve as local tourist guides as well and the \u2018tourist friendly tuk-tuk\u2019 concept was being launched in collaboration with the hospitality industry.
