COM<\/p>\n<p>Dear Mike:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Re: Tamil Heritage Month launch reflects pain of Sri Lanka\u2019s war.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With my ongoing interest in this 30 year long Tamil Eelam War in my Homeland,<\/p>\n<p>Sri Lanka, which ended with the last bullet penetrating the forehead of the Tamil Tiger leader, Velupillai Prabhakaran, on the sandy beach of the Nandikadal lagoon in Mullaitivu, at sundown on 19 May, 2009,, I was intrigued to read your take on it in your article -Ta<strong>mil Heritage Month launch reflects pain of Sri Lanka\u2019s\u00a0 war.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You know what Mike.\u00a0 After reading it, my stomach made somersaults laughing at it.<\/p>\n<p>That article of yours confirmed one more time that what P.T.Barnum said &#8211;<strong><em>There is\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>a Sucker born every minute.\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong>That\u2019s a pity.\u00a0 Let me elaborate\u00a0<strong>You (Mike Adler)<\/strong> said &#8211; <strong>The pain of the war that brought Tamils to Canada still, lingers, nearly 10 years after it ended.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I (Asoka Weerasinghe) <\/strong>says<strong> &#8211; That is sad, isn\u2019t it!\u00a0 Makes me ooze crocodile tears for these Tamils. <em>What pain of War\u201d, may I ask you Mike?\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The riots that began at sundown on 24 July, 1983, in Colombo, when unfortunately, the Tamils got a heck of a hiding with their shops in flames, and some deaths, and the world\u2019s floodgates were opened asunder to them saying\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>by the bleeding-heart international saviours,\u00a0 Come running to our safe arms\u201d. And so they came in rickety iron-corroding fishing trawlers and planes with some legitimate\u00a0 and others with illegitimate forged passports.\u00a0 It was a million dollar business,\u00a0\u00a0 The market value for one of these forged passports with entry documents went for Cdn. $25,000 a piece.\u00a0\u00a0 Ask the Toronto Metro police and they will tell you.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Of the Tamil refugees who came over, the majority, I would classify as \u2018Economic Refugees\u2019. If they had wanted to immigrate through the legitimate point system,\u00a0 they wouldn&#8217;t have had a snowball&#8217;s chance in hell to come into Canada. And that&#8217;s a FACT, and these Tamils know it.\u00a0 Did I tell you earlier that a Sucker is born every minute!\u00a0 Ummmmmm!!!!!\u00a0 How true, Canada!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>It intrigues me as to why these Tamils who landed in the West, like Canada, US, UK, France, Germany and Norway, etc., thumbed their noses at their\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>legitimate Motherland, Tamil Nadu, in South India, where 80-million of their kith and\u00a0 kin live, when flying over or sailing by it to the western lands in rickety Fishing Trawlers.\u00a0\u00a0 And,\u00a0 of course, no sooner these Convention Refugees get their landed status\/permanent residency and the Canadian Passport, they are on the first flight to Sri Lanka, from where they ran away from saying that they were persecuted and discriminated.\u00a0 Go figure that one out, Mike!<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Even prior to getting their Canadian passports, these Convention Tamil refugees came to the Sri Lanka High Commission in Ottawa in their thousands every October, November and December, with telegrams in their hands from Sri lanka, saying: Father\u00a0 dying of cancer, come home immediately. Or Mother dying of cancer, come home immediately.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Mike, How do you know\u201d you may ask me.\u00a0 That is a fair question.\u00a0 I know it as I had a stint as a senior locally recruited officer, and had to deal with these Tamil refugees, when the First Secretary was not available.\u00a0 I did tell these Tamil refugees, however, that I was amazed that every October , November and December there is a Cancer epidemic in Sri Lanka which afflicts only the Tamil parents and not a single Sinhalese, Muslim or Burgher parent.\u00a0 That was how it was between 1989 and 1994 when I was employed at the Sri Lanka High Commision in Ottawa.\u00a0\u00a0 Whoopee do&#8230;what a fraudulent hoot!\u00a0 Did I not tell you that\u00a0 there seems to be a Sucker born every minute, and Canada was certainly prone to that notion.\u00a0 What a hoot!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Mike you said, The pain of the war\u2026\u2026..\u201d\u00a0 Do you know who had suffered the pain most?\u00a0\u00a0 Between 1971 and 1981, much earlier than when the riots happened, were my people, the Sinhalese, when 27,000 of them who had been living in the North for generations, were threatened, terrorised and kicked out\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>by the separatist Tamils. A Classroom Textbook example of \u2018Ethnic Cleansing\u2019.\u00a0 Did you know that?\u00a0 Did these Tamils tell you you that?\u00a0 Of course, not.\u00a0 How could they in case they would be painted as a bunch of crafty liars who wanted to find greener pastures away from home, where the roads were paved with gold, and earn a welfare cheque in Canadian dollars which most of them would earn\u00a0 more in Sri Lankan rupees a month\u00a0 than what they earned in Sri Lanka.\u00a0\u00a0 Aren&#8217;t they a bunch of lucky people.\u00a0 Luckier than the Tamils who stayed back, as they couldn\u2019t afford a plane ticket or\u00a0 pay the owner of a rickety corroding fishing trawler to be\u00a0 sailed over to western shores. The June 1983 riots in Colombo were a God\u2019s send for these refugee Tamils,\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>These Tamils were ethnic cleansing maestros\u201d which was the genesis of them creating a Powder Keg which was waiting to go off anytime.\u00a0 It happened on 24 July 1983 with a bang, fire and smoke.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Here is a short menu of their \u2018ethnic cleansing\u2019\u00a0 acts of the Sinhalese majority, but there are more items.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><em>\u00a0In August 1977, the separatist Tamils chased 400 Sinhalese undergraduates and lecturers from the Jaffna Campus, and the buses that carried them South were attacked with a hail of rocks and stones; <\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em> \u2018Ethnic cleansing\u2019 of Sinhalese in the Vauniya District in 1984 &#8211; with 73<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0Sinhalese shot dead in their villages to create a fear psychosis and\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0make the Sinhalese leave on their own, 6000 Sinhalese refugees are still<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0 waiting to return to their ancestral homes in Wanni;<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong><em> \u2018Ethnic cleansing\u2019 of Sinhalese in the Trincomalee District\u00a0 in 1984 &#8211; over<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0150 Sinhalese throughout the District including Buddhist (I am a<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0Buddhist) monks have been killed and 20,000 refugees remain;<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><strong><em> \u2018Ethnic\u00a0 cleansing\u2019 of Sinhalese in Ampara District in 1980s &#8211; attempts<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0 to chase out Sinhalese by attacking villages and killing hundreds of<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0 Sinhalese while sleeping in their adobe houses was with the sole<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0intention of forcing the Sinhalese out of the areas of North and East to<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0 claim that these were Tamil areas, and so forth.\u00a0 There are scores more<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0 of\u00a0 such \u2018ethnic\u00a0 cleansing\u2019 incidents of the Sinhalese by the Tamils.\u00a0 And<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0that gets my goat, Mike.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><em>Your article of the Tamil pain, does not tell your readers the truth.\u00a0 And that is unfair on my people, the Sri Lankan-Sinhalese Canadians, and I am one of them.\u00a0 And I resent it.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Mike you sid, The pain of War\u2026\u2026..\u201d And I ask you What pain of War?\u201d\u00a0 You have missed a\u00a0 Fact about this War.\u00a0\u00a0 This war was fought by two conventional Armies.\u00a0 One was the separatist Tamil Tiger terrorists who were fighting to create a mono-ethnic, separate Tamil racist state, Eelam, carved out of 33% of productive real estate in the North and East of the island bordered by 60% of the coastline for 12.6% of the Tamil population,\u00a0 The other was the Sri Lanka army who had been trained to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of that democratic island nation, Sri Lanka, which also happened to be my Motherland.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>You give the impression that the Tamils are in pain\u201d, and not the Sinhalese whose soldiers and innocent civilians were killed in the thousands and that those who won the war, are still celebrating lighting the skies with fireworks\u00a0 and partying eating strings of Tamil Nadu Masala Wade with a fried shrimp curled on the top, and drinking coconut shells filled with Jaffna toddy.\u00a0 That is poppycock, Mike.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 That is Bull.\u00a0 Give me a break.\u00a0 Every soldier and innocent Sinhalese killed too were God&#8217;s children and had a mother, father and siblings like those of the Tamils who got killed in this unnecessary war.\u00a0 After 10 years of ending the Sinhalese are still grieving and in pain as those Tamils you have portrayed in your article.\u00a0 These chest thumping Mothers are still crying.\u00a0 And that is no Fairy Tale\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>So let&#8217;s cut out this crap, Mike.\u00a0 Let\u2019s be honest and lets portray the true picture of what it is after 10 years of ending the war in both communities, the Tamils and the Sinhalese.\u00a0 Anything else would be fraudulent journalism which\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>is not worth two prairie straws waving in the summer wind.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>I notice in your article, the photos of the second generation Tamil youngsters used as pawns by the adult Tamils reflecting their celebratory-pain.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>I wish they would have the courage to tell their Amma\u201d (Mother) and Appa (Father).\u00a0\u00a0 Listen, we know that you are angry with the Sinhalese in Sri Lanka, and your dream is to have your own separate, racist Tamil state, Eelam, but\u00a0 keep us out of it.\u00a0 We are here as Canadians, and some of us were born here, and we don\u2019t want to get involved in your sxxt\u201d and you can stew in it but don\u2019t pull us into the pot. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0If not for the riots of July 1983, we wouldn\u2019t\u00a0 have been here, and so Thank You\u00a0 God for that happening.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Amma, Appa so please let us live in Canada as Canadians and get on with our lives.\u00a0 If you hate the Sinhale, so be it as it is not our problem, but don\u2019t brainwash us to be hateful towards them, either.\u00a0 Dinesh an Sriyani, both\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Sinhalese are in my Class, and they are good friends of mine.\u00a0 And I want to continue being their friends, and they are good youngsters.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>So please&#8230;please leave us alone.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Mike, there is a Sinhalese-Canadian community in Toronto.\u00a0 Meet them and have a dialogue with them.\u00a0 They are a decent and an honest community.\u00a0 Give it a try and you will see the other side of the coin and how different it is as you have been preached by the separatist Tamil Eelamists in Toronto,\u00a0 feeding you with their Kilinochchi-Fairy Tales.,\u00a0 You won\u2019t regret it.<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Sincerely,<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Asoka Weerasinghe (Mr.)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Asoka Weerasinghe\u00a0Kings Grove Crescent .
