{"id":86278,"date":"2019-03-11T16:21:07","date_gmt":"2019-03-11T23:21:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=86278"},"modified":"2019-03-11T16:21:07","modified_gmt":"2019-03-11T23:21:07","slug":"sri-lanka-warns-of-extreme-heat-as-temperatures-continue-to-rise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2019\/03\/11\/sri-lanka-warns-of-extreme-heat-as-temperatures-continue-to-rise\/","title":{"rendered":"Sri Lanka warns of \u2018extreme heat\u2019 as temperatures continue to rise"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Courtesy NewsIn.Asia<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Colombo, March 11 (newsin.asia) \u2013 Sri Lanka\u2019s Meteorology Department, on Monday issued an \u2018extreme heat\u2019 advisory as temperatures in several districts across the island is expected to rise further in the coming days.<\/p>\n<p>The Department, in a statement, cautioned the public to take appropriate precautions to avoid any health-related issues caused by the severe heat condition and the high level of moisture in the air and low wind speed had been the result of the rising temperatures.<\/p>\n<p>The Meteorology Department warned that the situation would prevail until the beginning of the south-west monsoon in May.<\/p>\n<p>The Natural Hazards Early Warning Center forecasted \u2018Extreme Caution\u2019 levels for most parts of the Northern, North Central and the North Western provinces.<\/p>\n<div>Under this level of warning, heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible while continuing activity could result in heat stroke, the statement said.<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Several areas in capital Colombo, and in the south have also been warned to take extra precautions when being out in the heat.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Department advises the public to remain hydrated and take frequent breaks while also avoid going outside.
