TNA\nthe party created by LTTE is making a lot of sound of late. It\u2019s a pity that\nthere is no political party or leaders with spine to commence investigation\ninto LTTE-TNA links, afterall LTTE remains banned and TNA was created by LTTE.\nThere is much that TNA must answer and there are many that TNA must account for\nbefore TNA goes blowing any trumpets. Therefore, any future government must\nensure that TNA as well as a plethora of other individuals and organizations be\ninvestigated for their covert\/overt links to LTTE. If Sumanthiran wants a\njudicial mechanism we can most certainly give him one by starting off with\ninvestigating LTTE-TNA links first and by all means we would love to invite\nsome foreign judges as OBSERVERS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On\n22 March 2019 TNA MP Sumanthiran at the committee stage debate in Parliament issued\na warning I want to make one thing very clear. The GOSL has made these\ncommitments 3 times in writing. But if they do not adhere to this commitment of\nincluding \u2018independent\u2019 foreign judges in the judicial mechanism, then we the\nTamil people will be left with no alternative but to move towards an entirely\ninternational judicial mechanism. That is possible and our people have been\nasking for this, asking that Sri Lanka be referred to the International\nCriminal Court (ICC). We prefer a hybrid judicial mechanism, but if the\ngovernment, despite all of these written commitments, and the fact that it is\npossible under the constitution to do so, doesn\u2019t do it, then I think it is\nimportant that I today announce to the government and to the country, that we\nwill take steps to move Sri Lanka to the ICC or some other entirely international\njudicial mechanism\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sumanthiran\n\u2013 Sri Lanka has NOT signed nor acceded the Rome Statute and only when a treaty\nis ratified does it become binding on all states and accession has same legal\neffect as ratification. ICC is not applicable to Sri Lanka. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who\nstarted the quest for separatism first \u2013 the LTTE or the Tamil parties? Good\nquestion and the answer clearly establishes that it was the Tamil politicians\nthat began the quest to seek a separate Tamil nation and not the LTTE. LTTE\nonly hijacked the quest & turned it into an armed movement that bumped off\nany Tamil that went against it. So in the eyes of the LTTE \u2013 their Tamil only\nNation meant ONLY TAMILS that agreed to abide by LTTE rule of law. All other\nTamils were not welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LTTE demands were officially made\npublic during the Thimpu talks in 1985<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Recognizing Tamils of Ceylon as a nation<\/strong><\/li>
  2. Recognizing existence of an identified homeland\nfor the Tamils of Ceylon<\/strong><\/li>
  3. Recognizing right of self-determination of the\nTamil Nation <\/strong><\/li>
  4. Recognizing right of citizenship & fundamental\nrights of all Tamils of Ceylon<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The\nterm \u2018Tamils of Ceylon\u2019 or \u2018Ceylon Tamils\u2019 is how long? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    It\nwas only in 1911 that the term Ceylon Tamils was coined. Prior to that Tamils\nwere referred to as Malabars by all 3 Western European colonial rulers.\nMalabars came from India and India is and has always been a separate territory\nto Sri Lanka Therefore, the simple question is how can Malabars from India seek\nself-determination in Sri Lanka. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Ceylon\nTamils earlier known as Malabars have no legal claim to self-determination from\nSri Lanka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The\nTNA an unregistered alliance was created by LTTE in October 2001 immediately\nfollowing 9\/11 realizing that the West\u2019s \u2018War on Terror\u2019 may impact LTTE. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    TNA\ncomprised ACTC (All Ceylon Tamil Congress), the\nEPRLF (Eelam People\u2019s Revolutionary Liberation Front), TELO (Tamil Eelam\nLiberation Organization), TULF (Tamil United Liberation Front).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    What\nis noteworthy are the election manifesto demands placed by LTTE\u2019s political\nwing the TNA for the 2001 elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    2001\nTNA election manifesto demands are virtually identical to LTTE Thimpu demands\nin 1985.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    a) Recognition of Tamils as a distinct nationality<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    b) Recognition of a Tamil Homeland with\nguaranteed territorial integrity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    c) Recognition of the inalienable right of self-determination<\/strong> of\nthe Tamil nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    d) Recognition of the\nright to full citizenship and\nfundamental democratic rights of all Tamils<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Separatism did not start with LTTE. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The first salvo for separatism\u201d was attempted during British reign\nby creating Tamil ethnic political party (All Ceylon Tamil Congress 1944). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Chelvanayagam founded both ITAK\n(Federal Party) in 1949 and Tamil United Liberation Front in 1972. <\/strong>SJV\nChelvanayagam is known as the father of the Tamil Nation<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In 1976 TULF and ITAK demanded an independent state as the \u2018secular,\nsocialist state of Tamil Eelam\u2019 (Vaddukoddai Resolution)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    5 demands at Vaddukoddai\nResolution<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. State\nof Tamil Eelam to consist of North & Eastern provinces to all Tamil\nspeaking people<\/strong><\/li>
    2. Constitution\nof Tamil Eelam based on principles of decentralization. No foremost place to\nany religion or territorial community.<\/li>
    3. Tamil\nEelam will assure equal status to all<\/li>
    4. Tamil\nEelam will be a secular state with equal protection to all religions<\/li>
    5. Tamil will be language of the State but\nSinhala speaking minority can educate and transact in Sinhala subject to\nreciprocity of Tamil speaking minority in Sinhala state.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      ITAK\u2019s 1949 demands were<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \u2018autonomous rule in the North East based on the principles of\nself-determination and shared sovereignty within a united, undivided Sri Lanka\u2019<\/strong> (2014)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      ITAK is the leader of the TNA alliance<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \u2018Tamil United Liberation Front, of which our party was a member\ntook the historical decision to establish the separate government of Tamil\nEelam in 1976\u2019 (Sambanthan in 2014 at ITAK convention)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      TULF manifesto of 1977 stated that Eelam would be ultimately\nestablished either by peaceful means or by direct action or struggle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Prabakaran formed Tamil New Tigers in 1972 the same year TULF\nwas formed<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Prabakaran rechristened TNT as LTTE in May 1976 the same month\/year\nTULF called for the creation of an independent Tamil Eelam (Vaddukoddai\nResolution) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      As you can see both political and military objectives not only\nwere aligned by time but the demands too were virtually the same. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
