{"id":88652,"date":"2019-05-12T15:51:03","date_gmt":"2019-05-12T22:51:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=88652"},"modified":"2019-05-12T15:51:03","modified_gmt":"2019-05-12T22:51:03","slug":"easter-sunday-attack-and-tourism-sickles-and-hammers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2019\/05\/12\/easter-sunday-attack-and-tourism-sickles-and-hammers\/","title":{"rendered":"Easter Sunday attack and tourism sickles and hammers"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Dr Sarath Obeysekera\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Every day we read and hear about the way tourism has\nsuffered and how not only airlines ,hotels ,and eating houses and even tuk tuk\ndrivers are suffering .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During one of the meeting hosted by EDB I mentioned about\nthe proble<strong>m we are <\/strong>facing to get insurance policies for industries\n.Industires are facing problems in the port,customs ,transport of raw materials\nand delays everywhere.We cannot get workers to report to work.Productivity at\nrock bottom and people are suffering due to drastic reduction of income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Countries like Vietnam ,Cambodia ,Laos and even Indonesia\nhad such downturns and yet they bounced back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These countries just forgot tourism and concentrated on\nlocal production and their agriculture .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(The knives recovered should be used to make sickles and\nhammers ?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let us try to create more blue economy related industries in\nfishery etc .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let us us create marinas and get local tourism in the\nforefront.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Government should get the bureaucracy back to work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Install a strong minister of Local Government who can make\nall local state institutions get back in action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is time to open our eyes and look for other avenues to\ncarry on with the life of people without talking about tourism knives swords\nand Facebook postings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr Sarath Obeysekera\u00a0 Every day we read and hear about the way tourism has suffered and how not only airlines ,hotels ,and eating houses and even tuk tuk drivers are suffering .
