On\nMay the 21st<\/sup> evening,\nabout 1,0000 people gathered in front of the Brampton City Hall in\nOntario, Canada to express their disappointment\nand frustration towards Mr. Patrick Brown, the city\nmayor through a massivedemonstration and a peaceful\nrally. The mayor has already passed a proclamation (April 24th<\/sup>,\n2019) OF GENOCIDE OF TAMIL PEOPLE that never occurred in\nSri Lanka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

genocide\nis defined as systematic measures for the extermination of a national\ncultural, religious or racial group\u201d. The United Nations or any other\ncountry has not declared that Sri Lanka committed Genocide\u201d in\n2009. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nattendees of the public rally believed and expressed their concerns\nthrough slogans and speeches that this proclamation creates an unnecessary\ntension between the Sinhalese and the Tamils in Canada. There are 14,225\nSri Lankans of all ethnic types currently living in Brampton. Mayor has\nseemingly forgotten that these numbers indicate votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nattendees from Brampton municipal area asked how the mayor could use\nBrampton taxpayer\u2019s money to tackle a foreign political issue. They\nall strongly felt that this council had no authority to declare a war as a\ngenocide in another commonwealth country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They\nalso pointed out that the Liberation of Tamil Tigers\n(LTTE) which has been designated by the FBI as the\nmost heinous of all terrorist groups, systematically killed both Tamil and\nSinhala intellectuals and leaders in Sri Lanka. According to Mayor\u2019s\ncommunications, he had received support from four members of\nthe Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) which represent\nthe LTTE (a Banned terrorist organization) in Canada now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According\nto the attendees, this proclamation is a political trick towards\ngetting Tamil Canadian votes, and at the same time, an act over which a city\ncouncil or mayor has no legal authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They\nspecifically asked the mayor: Do you wish to encourage one ethnic\ncommunity in Canada to break up the existing peace and harmony supported by the\nact of Multiculturalism?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They demanded\nthat this proclamation be withdrawn. A responsible political leader like\nPatrick Brown should never ever use their tax dollars for their political\nadvantage and purposes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
