What happens in Sri Lanka is a story\nstraight from hell. Indian and Arabic minorities are holding the nation\nhostage. To an outside onlooker it is strange and comical but this is serious.\nIt marks the end of the nation. Tamil and Muslim terrorists have been released\nunder various pretexts. Some were not even taken into custody. Those few\narrested but not yet released were arrested under petty crimes and not under\nthe Prevention of Terrorism Act. Over 150 ethnic Sinhalese have been\nslaughtered more than a month ago but no concrete action has been taken to\npunish the terrorists. The army has been cowed down to a group of ragtag\nweapons carriers providing regular updates on the situation to Islamic leaders!\nWhen did the army\u2019s reporting line change? Instead of punishing terrorists, the\nsecurity establishment shuts down freedom of expression. Sri Lanka has become\nan apartheid dictatorship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sinhalese are extremely vulnerable,\ndefenceless and hopeless. This must change and change quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In wide contrast India for the\nsecond time elected a BJP led government without a single elected Muslim MP\nfrom the coalition. World\u2019s largest democracy upholds true democracy while Sri\nLanka\u2019s twisted form of democracy is plagued by the PR system of parliamentary\nelections and an executive president who is just a puppet in the hands of\nminority political parties ever since it was introduced. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PR system was worsened just two\ndays before the 1988 presidential election where the SLMC forced the UNP to\nbring down the cut-off of parliamentary election minimum votes requirement from\n12.5% to just 5%. Any party that wins over 5% of the vote in a district will be\nconsidered for seat allocation. Desperate Premadasa had no choice than to\nagree. However, in 1994 SLMC joined Chandrika\u2019s PA and managed to keep the privileges\nas it is. This is used as a threat by SLMC, ACMC and CWC in key election\ndistricts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Executive presidents have been the\nweakest Lankan leaders. When a weak leader has executive power, it is total\ndisaster. All executive presidents were held hostage by minority political\nparties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If Sri Lanka were to be saved from\nthis Satanic hostage situation, both the PR system and the executive presidency\nmust be abolished. The old First-Past-The-Post system must be introduced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To make matters worse, the island\nhas become a battlefield of superpowers. USA, Saudi Arabia, China and India are\nafter their own military bases in the island. They want secure and friendly\nchunks of the island where their military can be based and their backs are\ncovered. It is a matter of time a major regional war will split the island\nnation. Minorities will take the side of their respective external motherlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sinhala\nvoters must realise their potential. At the 2019 and 2020 elections Sinhalese\nmust use bloc voting \u2013 a tactic used by minority voters. However, the biggest\nresponsibility is with Sinhala candidates. If they remain minority-venerating\nmollusks, then Sinhala voters will be rightfully divided. They must grow a\nbackbone for a change and stand their ground. The 2019 presidential election is\na referendum for independence from a hostage situation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
