{"id":89505,"date":"2019-05-28T16:24:30","date_gmt":"2019-05-28T23:24:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=89505"},"modified":"2019-05-28T16:24:30","modified_gmt":"2019-05-28T23:24:30","slug":"indo-sri-lanka-buddhist-network-initiated","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2019\/05\/28\/indo-sri-lanka-buddhist-network-initiated\/","title":{"rendered":"Indo \u2013 Sri Lanka Buddhist Network Initiated"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>By Senaka Weeraratna<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>A\ngroup of pro-active Indian and Sri Lankan Buddhists drawn from leading Buddhist\norganizations had a series of discussions on the sidelines of the World\nBuddhist Assembly gathering in Bangkok, Thailand (May 21 \u2013 25, 2012) and\ndecided to establish an \u2018Indo \u2013 Sri Lanka Buddhist Network\u2019 to pursue a number\nof preliminary aims and objectives that are beneficial to the cause of\nconsolidating and spreading Buddhism in both countries and other parts of the\nworld. It is anticipated that a more substantial organization would emerge with\nthe passage of time from these interactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\npreliminary aims and objectives of this Buddhist Network are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>i)\nTo develop and strengthen warm and friendly ties between Buddhists in India and\nSri Lanka,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ii)\nTo collaborate in Projects leading to the promotion of peace and non \u2013 violence,\nfriendly relations and understanding between peoples of India and Sri Lanka\nwithin a framework of Buddhist principles and shared past in a common Buddhist\ncivilization that influenced both countries, and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>iii)\nTo work together in propagating and spreading Buddhism worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nfirst of many Projects that are intended to be launched both in India and Sri\nLanka would be the convening of an International Conference in Colombo, Sri\nLanka before the end of 2012 on the topic:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022\n&#8216; The contribution of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar to the revival and renaissance of\nBuddhism in the 20th Century \u2019<br>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Some\nof the other intended Projects include &#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022\nThe launch of an international public campaign calling on the Government of Sri\nLanka and other Governments in Buddhist Asia to issue commemorative postage\nstamps in honour of Dr. B.R.
