There are\nthree signs of a good person:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1)               \nSpeaking\nthe truth and searching it out. Only truth has value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2)             \nKnowing\nwhat is good and supporting it, and protecting it. .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3)             \nRecognizing\nbeauty and appreciating it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schools are intended to\nguide students into these three ways of basic goodness. But in Sri Lanka things\nare not going to plan; to a certain measure, they are going in the wrong\ndirection:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To pass\nterm tests and examinations, sadly, some students, the dishonest ones, cheat to\ngain higher marks. They can do this by taking into the examination crib\u201d\nnotes; or they can sit by a friend who will help them during the exam.. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this\nway they get an advantage over their classmates and claim by fraud, a higher\nacademic achievement. But this is a lie – an untrue image of their real ability\nto work, study and pass exams. They may cheat in the whole range of subjects of\nthe curriculum and even win school prizes and honours \u2013 dishonest students who\nclaim to be worthy of honour!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is\nnot the purpose of schools!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of\nthe main reasons why children attend school is to get knowledge, and learn good\nhabits, good manners and become trustworthy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is\nonly trustworthy people who have any value to society as a whole. It is only\nthey who can make a society, a country great.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having a\ngood school-life experience moulds and shapes children so that they can be\nprepared for life and have knowledge and to have all the tools to overcome\ntheir future problems. People who live by cheating end up in failure due to not\nhave good knowledge and not behaving honestly. We all learn from our mistakes,\nwe learn from our experiences. That is how people actually learn. Make your\nmistakes at school and not in the outside world! It is the road along which we\nall travel to get personal development, experience and wisdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People\nare social animals. We work together to achieve things. And to work together we\nhave to talk and communicate our ideas and work to do things that are needed by\nthe group. When it comes to actual doing and producing, people who lie soon get\nexposed. If you can\u2019t answer truthfully and with knowledgeable answers people\nreject you. Very quickly people name you as a liar! And not to be trusted! Your\ngood name falls to the dust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schools\nare producing students, some of whom are dishonest people, cheaters by habit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are\nthe famous four Cardinal Virtues\u201d made famous by Virgil  of Greece:\nCourage, Prudence, Temperance, and Justice..<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If\nstudents have a sense of justice and fair play they will work and not rely on\ncheating to pass their exams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
