It is perhaps because they\nare rich and that their parents  were\nfrom  UNP, that the UNP Parliamentary\nbackbenchers do not see that the old capitalist system is not suitable  to Sri Lanka any more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we got our\nIndependence in 1948 there was Colonialism. It was the Russian Revolution that\ninfluenced  Colonies to gain\nIndependence. After Russian revolution Communism spread in Europe and the ideas\nof a Socialist  system of government,\ndifferent from Capitalism began to take root in European Countries,  and even  those countries that got  independence from colonial rule.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Sri Lanka\ncapitalism- a political  system, a step\naway from  feudalism that existed in pre-colonial\nSri Lanka, was acceptable to the then political leaders, who  continued with the capitalist parliamentary\nsystem proposed by their  Colonial\nMasters. They interpreted the Socialist system of Government  the Communist and the Samasamaja Parties were\nproposing to the people ,   a system of\ngovernment against religion,  and  against accepted Buddhist Cultural norms\nwhere they addressed everyone including their elders as Comrades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Marxists- the\nSamasamaja and the Communist parties found \nthat their revolutionary political ideas  were more easily accepted by the working\nclass, and hence neglected  the farmers\nand the peasants of the villages outside townships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However the leaders of\nthe  Marxist Parties,  N.MPerera, Colvin R De Silva, Bernard Soysa,Dr.Wickramasinghe,\nKeunaman, Philip and Robert Gunewardhan brothers, William Silva were becoming\npopular political figures as people began to understand them through their\nspeeches that Socialism they proposed was a people friendly system  more acceptable than the  capitalist British system of the less  talkative political leaders \u2013 of the Sinhala\nMahasabha the  predecessors to the UNP\nsystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By 1951 the UNP\nGovernment started having political difference within the party. D.S.Senanayake\ndied in 1952. The UNP then as they are today were leaning heavily towards the\nWestern Countries , and they were not willing to change their western\ncapitalists  system to a people friendly\nsystem of Government. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The political\nleaders of the UNP then,  as they\nare  now were  more concerned \nabout themselves  and kept the\npeople dependent on their capitalist \nsystem, placing them-selves above the ordinary people and within their\nfeudal hierarchic system. The people were   depending on them as the slaves of their\nCapitalist system of Government. Even today we see how much they look for their\nplace in the social hierarchy, when a wife of a UNP Presidential hopeful tells\nthe people at a public meeting  that she\nis the future first lady of Sri Lanka.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seeing that UNP will\nnot move from their  assumed  social superiority to form a people friendly\nGovernment, SWRD Bandaranayake left the UNP to give the people of Sri Lanka\ntheir  cultural and national rights\ndenied to them by the Colonial rulers, as well as by  the UNP Government,  SWRD Banadaranaike  formed a government  of the people giving the rightful place\nto  Buddhist Monk,  the physician,  the teachers, and the peasant and the farmer.  He further put right the wrong political system\nby which the country had been ruled since independence by joining hands with\nthe left wing politicians of the Samasamaja Party, Mahajana Eksath Peramuna and\nthe Communist Party. He made meaningful the National anthem and the National\nflag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UNP Backbenchers\nshould look  back and see for themselves  the failure of their  Capitalist System of Government, which has\nnot contributed to the development of an Independent Sri Lankan Culture, society,\nor  even such an economy. There was\na  cultural revival in Sri Lanka only\nafter 1956 and that was not under the UNP. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UNP Backbenchers\nshould note  that  the system of government necessary for the\nbenefit of  Sri Lanka,   and its\npeople, is a system away from Western Capitalism, a socialist system. That is\nthe demand of the people. It is why  Sri\nLanka Podujana Peramuna has become a popular party of the people, within a\nshort time it was  announced as a\nPolitical Party. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The people will not\nvote for the present SLFP too if it contests any election in future as they\nhave failed in 2015 to respect the  very\nreason that made SWRD Bandaranayaike leave the UNP in 1951 to form a Socialist\nGovernment in 1956 and join with the leftwing Political Parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To-day the General\nSecretary of the SLFP Dayasiri Jayasekara unable to feel the pulse of the\npeople, is making a great effort to  make\nSLFP an independent party without joining the progressive Sri Lanka Socialist\npolitical Camp led by  Sri Lanka Podujana\nPeramuna. This may be  because Dayasiri\nJayasekara  comes from UNP and he can  not sense the thinking of SWRD Bandaranayake\nwhen he left UNP to form the SLFP.  Today\nSLFP has lost the reasons for which it was organised by its founder and\ntherefore  SLFP is reduced to a mere a\nname board. It is likely to break up and some of its members  may even join the UNP.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UNP, states   as a criticism against the former Government\nof President Mahinda Rajapakse , that it  antagonised the Western Countries led by USA, and\nboasts that the UNP has now established friendly relations with those\ncountries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UNP backbenchers\nwhen they speak in TV debates etc.,  should\nmake sure of what they say without repeating what had been told by the UNP\nleaders.  The UNP backbenchers should\ninvestigate the truth.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mahinda Rajapakse and\nhis government did not want to antagonise USA and the west, but they wanted\nthem kept away from Sri Lanka until they  completed the military operations against\nterrorism. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

But again Mahinda\nRajapakse government  had invited USA to\nhelp Sri Lanka  to defeat terrorism,\nwhich USA did by locating the most of the ten LTTE ships transporting arms and\nammunitions for terror purposes.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet other than that can\nthe UNP backbenchers say whether USA had really helped Sri Lanka at any time in\nthe past ? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

USA is a country\nwhich has still not helped any developing countries in the world to develop\neven by giving them  loans.  JR Jayawardhan the UNP President had accepted\nUSA as his close friend.  JR was in fact\ncalled Yankee Dicky. When he became the President he had no fear even about\nterrorism as he thought USA  would stand\nby him to defeat terrorism and help him bring peace and security to Sri\nLanka.  Did it happen ?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When India dropped dry\nration\u201d, to the terrorists in the North, and asked the President to enter into\na peace agreement and amend the Constitution of Sri Lanka to include the 13th<\/sup>\n Amendment. USA looked away , and\nPresident Jayawardhana had nobody to help him. USA had betrayed him. Therefore,\nhe entered into a peace agreement with India and mutilated  the Constitution of Sri Lanka by including\nthe 13th<\/sup>  Amendment proposed\nby India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though there is no\ndeveloping country in the world  that USA\nhelped to develop, there is no difficulty to name many countries destroyed,\ntheir leaders assassinated  or  their development hampered by USA ? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cuba  under Fulgencio Batista was  some what like what  Sri Lanka would be under  Ranil Wickramasinghe preparing to sign  the SOFA Agreement with USA. Batista leased the\nsothern part of Cuba to USA  which is now\na USA army base called Guantanamo.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under Fulgencio Batista,\n Cuba \nbecame the play ground for the rich Americans. There were  prostitution, casinos, drug dealers ,and so\non. It was  that Cuba,  Fidel Castro made a free and an  independent country. Yet Americans was all out\nto destroy Cuba. There were planned military attacks,  having failed in that America imposed trade\nembargos against Cuba. Cuba faced all that but never allowed America to  enter into the country. That is why Cuba\nsurvived. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

China is a rich and a\ngreat country today, because they did not allow America to interfere in to\nChina.  USSR was divided by USA, because Russian\n leaders began to have ultra diplomatic relations\nwith USA. After that USA did not allow USSR to unite again. However Russia  did not allow USA  to interfere into Russia. Thanks to President\nPutin, Russia is a rich and a  developed\ncountry today because  Russia had severed\nconnections with USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

USA cannot be\ntrusted. Sri Lanka should learn  to avoid\ndealings with USA as USA can bring about only ruin to Sri Lanka. The UNP Backbenchers\nshould pay serious attention to persons like Mangala Samaraweera in the UNP,\nwho is a party to  selling  Sri Lanka to America. He proved that  by even sponsoring a Resolution by\nAmerica  against  his own Country-Sri Lanka, without even the\npermission of the President and the Parliament.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

India too claims an\neconomic growth, but is that growth seen on the ground and amoung the people.\nThere is a never ending caste problem in India and  many are subject to utter misery  many without even proper sanitary facilities.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Sri Lanka was progressing fast towards\ndevelopment when unfortunately the people voted Yahapalanaya  into power which has  brought Sri Lanka back to being a poor\ncountry.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UNP  Backbenchers please see and understand how\nmuch you are correct about USA.  Though\nyou   repeatedly say  at TV Debates that the Government of  USA is  friendly\n towards Ranil Wickramasinghe, and you\nhad  seen the  Ambassador for USA Alaina Teplitz played a\nvery close role  alongside   UNP in\nOctober,2019  when the President had\ndismissed  the\nPrime Minister, do you think that USA ws playing a protective role to\nhelp the PM Ranil in the development process , or was only looking after\nAmerica\u2019s own benefits, without  development\nof  Sri Lanka not even in their thoughts\n?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is what the\nUNP Backbenchers should seriously contemplate, think of, and understand from\nwhat the UNP had been doing in the past. Today UNP  is like an old race horse. It has run out of\nbreath. It can never run any more races. It should be tethered and perhaps kept\nas a museum piece, it cannot plough, it will only  ruin the ground.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is now time for\nthe UNP Backbenchers to start from scratch and  initiate action to form a new political party\nor reconstruct the UNP getting rid of the destructive elements in it such as\nRanil Wickramasinghe, Sajith Premadasa, Karu Jayasuriya, Malik Samarawickrama,\nMangala Samaraweera, Ravi Katunanayake, Lakshmn Kiriella, Daya Gamage, Rosy\nSenanayake, Thalatha Athukorala, Amaratunga and the whole of that lot, including\nthe Muslim MPs. who do not toe the line in the formation of a new political\nparty.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
