{"id":91891,"date":"2019-08-03T14:33:47","date_gmt":"2019-08-03T21:33:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=91891"},"modified":"2019-08-03T14:33:47","modified_gmt":"2019-08-03T21:33:47","slug":"us-embassy-reminds-of-travel-advisories-on-sri-lanka-in-line-with-holidays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2019\/08\/03\/us-embassy-reminds-of-travel-advisories-on-sri-lanka-in-line-with-holidays\/","title":{"rendered":"US Embassy reminds of Travel Advisories on Sri Lanka in line with holidays"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Courtesy Adaderana<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>The United States Embassy in Colombo reiterating the travel advisory issued on Sri Lanka requests US citizens in Sri Lanka to be more vigilant of probable terror attacks that may occur within the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The security alert was issued by the embassy in acknowledgment of the upcoming holidays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/adaderanaenglish.s3.amazonaws.com\/1564858049-US-Embassy-reminds-Travel-Advisories-on-Sri-Lanka-in-line-with-holidays-B.jpg\" alt=\"US Embassy reminds of Travel Advisories on Sri Lanka in line with holidays\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The United States has issued a Level 2 Travel Advisory (Exercise Increased Caution) on Sri Lanka in line with the April 21 Easter Sunday terror attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Embassy points out that terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets, shopping malls, government facilities, hotels, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, parks, major sporting and cultural events, educational institutions, airports, hospitals, and other public areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Embassy further requests American states in the country to take the following precautions to ensure their safety:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 Be aware of your surroundings when traveling to tourist locations and crowded public venues.<br>\u2013 Follow the instructions of local authorities.<br>\u2013 Monitor local media for breaking events and adjust your plans based on new information.<br>\u2013 Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive Alerts and make it easier to locate you in an emergency.<br>\u2013 Follow the Department of State on Facebook and Twitter.<br>\u2013 Review the Crime and Safety Report for Sri Lanka.<br>\u2013 U.S. citizens who travel abroad should always have a contingency plan for emergency situations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Courtesy Adaderana The United States Embassy in Colombo reiterating the travel advisory issued on Sri Lanka requests US citizens in Sri Lanka to be more vigilant of probable terror attacks that may occur within the country.
