Revenue collected from fines imposed on drink drivers in Sri Lanka in the most recent 50 days amounts to staggering Rs 250 m from mere 10,000 offending drivers.\u00a0 There is no doubt the vast majority of these offenders are Sinhala Theravada Buddhists who commit in the 5th Precept to abstain from intoxicants as tending to cloud the mind\u201d to Lord Buddha each morning. But doing also, they also directly break the 4th Precept to abstain from the false speech\u201d. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Naturally, under the influence of liquor, they are likely to break the 3rd<\/sup> Precept to abstain from sensuous misconduct .<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When one is out of mind and out of control, \u00a0we need not go on a voyage of discovery to determine as to what happens to the remaining two Precepts of \u00a0\u00a0to abstain from taking life and to abstain from taking what is not given\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Buddhist philosophy teaches the simple basic ways of living that perhaps no other religion or philosophy had provided as a guide to a good life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a consequence of these instances, committing murder intentional or otherwise becoming common. Robberies by ordinary citizens as well as incidents of rape and rape-murder are also quite common in my Buddhist Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When in Sri Lanka, you are unsure of whom to deal with.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where are those Sri Lankans whom we had with\u201dSARA GUNA\nDARMA\u201d?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verse\n248: Know this, O man! Not restraining oneself is evil; do not let greed and\nill will subject you to prolonged misery.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
